Kentucky is said to be a real hotbed for vampirism. A double slaying in Murray, KY led police to uncover a large network of vampire cults in which "unidentified adults" were initiating youth.
http://www.theescapist.com/ferrell_bad_blood.htmThe killers, led by Rod Ferrell, were associated with this network - in Ferrell's case, it appears his family was involved with such a cult for generations. His mother described herself as a vampire, and he described years of sexual abuse at the hands of his grandfather's satanic cult, which he called the Black Mask.
The trench coat style - which, like many traditional satanist systems, started in Europe - naturally evolved into the informal uniform of self-professed vampires, and also the dress of choice for individuals associated with the school shooting phenomenon - some of whom, the infamous "Trench Coat Mafia" at Columbine High School, were said to play Vampire: The Masquerade, a fantasy role-playing game with themes of eugenics, nihilism, luciferianism and a storyline in which players have been brought into the fold of "a hidden elite". Which appears to be exactly what's going on.
