Last week on Thursday, US Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah) introduced a bill to Congress called The Cartel Marque and Reprisal Reauthorization Act. If passed, the law would allow President Trump to issue letters of marque to private companies or individuals to "outfit private warships for the purposes of sinking or capturing vessels belonging to enemy nations," and allow American citizens to "employ all reasonable means necessary" to seize cartel property at land or sea. This power, granting a legal form of piracy known as privateering, has not used by the US gov't since the War of 1812 over 200 years ago during the Age of Sail. While The Paris Declaration respecting Maritime Law of 1856 formally banned privateering, the US did not sign on to the treaty.

Senator Lee says the bill, despite its antiquity, will strongarm recent efforts against Venezuelan drug cartels in the Caribbean.

"The Constitution provides for letters of marque and reprisal as a tool against the enemies of the United States," Lee said Thursday. "Cartels have replaced corsairs in the modern era, but we can still give private American citizens and their businesses a stake in the fight against these murderous foreign criminals. The Cartel Marque and Reprisal Reauthorization Act will revive this historic practice to defend our shores and seize cartel assets."

However, it is likely the bill may still face opposition as the Trump administration faces scrutiny over their 'brutal' methods of combating drug cartels, including an attack on Sept. 2 in which a Navy Commander overseeing the operation ordered a second missile strike to kill two survivors who were clinging to an overturned vessel.

This month the Israeli-American grassroots activist group StopAntisemitism has nominated Ms. Rachel as 2025 Antisemite of the Year. Rachael Ann Accurso, otherwise known as Ms. Rachel, is an American YouTuber that creates educational content for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. Her channel has 16.5 million subscribers with over 12 billion views. She has received multiple awards and nominations for her content, including two Emmys and Glamour magazine's Woman of the Year.

The accusation comes from Ms. Rachel sharing content from Palestinian journalists on her social media profiles, allegedly having ties with and receiving funding from Hamas, calling for cease fire in Gaza, and allegedly "amplifying misinformation from Hamas" to a young audience. This is primarily derived from Ms. Rachel hosting Motaz Azaiza, a Palestinian photojournalist whos mission is to expose Israeli terrorism and genocide in Gaza. According to StopAntisemitism, Azaiza is a "terrorist sympathizer who celebrated the 10/7 massacre & openly idolizes Yahya Sinwar."

Since May, Ms. Rachel has often posted on her Instagram account about the suffering of children in Gaza from the war alongside expressing grief for Israeli families that have had their children taken hostage by Hamas. Additionally, Ms. Rachel has closed comments on her social media profiles after receiving harassment and death threats from zionists online for organizing over $50,000 in fundraising via Cameo to support Save The Children's emergency fund for Gaza and other war-torn parts of the world. In interviews with Medhi Hasan and Democracy Now!, she has stated "It’s sad that people try to make it controversial when you speak out for children that are facing immeasurable suffering… it is difficult to receive criticism, but… that pain will never compare to the pain of not speaking out during a genocide". Ms. Rachel has also stated that she will never collaborate with anyone who has not spoken out against violence in Gaza.

The rare statement from Clinton spokesperson Angel Ureña comes as the Trump administration has attempted to make him the GOP's new boogeyman in a monthslong saga related to the files that has plagued the White House, sparking sharp rebukes from allies and MAGA firebrands.

"What the Department of Justice has released so far, and the manner in which it did so, makes one thing clear: someone or something is being protected," Ureña said in the statement. "We do not know whom, what or why. But we do know this: We need no such protection."

The controversial online forum 4chan risks being blocked in the UK after refusing to pay a fine from Ofcom for breaking rules set by the Online Safety Act.

The website, which hosts adult content, was handed a £20,000 for failing to share information about the risk of illegal content on its platform.

Media watchdog Ofcom said action would be taken against companies that "flagrantly fails to engage with Ofcom and their duties under the Online Safety Act".

Lawyers for 4chan described the fine, which is the first to be handed down under the new regulation, as “risible” and “stupid”.

4chan, which has been referred to as the “cesspit of the internet”, has previously been blamed for radicalising young men, while also being linked to mass shootings.

Zootopia 2, which features a new reptile character named Gary De'Snake (portrayed by Vietnamese-American actor Ke Huy Quan), has supposedly ingnited a new consumer trend among young Chinese people in the purchase of a pet that resembles Gary, particularly the highly venomous blue pit viper. On large Chinese e-commerce platforms such as Xiaohongshu and Xianyu, blue pit vipers have either sold out or been forcibly removed from sale.

Experienced reptile owners and media outlets alike have warned that while the fictional character may be charming and friendly, the real animal is quite the opposite.
