>>116055it's a really different beast from the original series, it trades the corniness for a way more serious and somber feel, the only things the remake keeps is the basic premise, some character names and religious themes
in my opinion it's one of the best space opera series in existence
the cast and characters are really it's high point, you'll VISCERALLY hate some characters by the nature of them being a realistic flawed human being with biases, while you'll definitely find your favourites (boomer Adama is a badass and pretty much an universal favourite)
the show also tackles a lot of different political issues like integration of criminals into society, the transfer of power from military to civilian, religious extremism and a lot more
since the show mostly deals only with galactica and it's small fleet of survivors, you can see the effects of those issues in a more personal light (as opposed if the show was dealing with entire countries worth of peoples)
and altough the lore can be murky sometimes, I liked it and it's religious subtexts (the remake was made by a mormon just like the original), the new cylon and ship designs are kewl, also the soundtrack is really good and original
tl;dr if you're into space operas heavy on the character and political drama, give at least the Pilot + EP1 a shot
