Watched it yesterday, it was alright.

Its a 7/10, better than the generic slop pumped out by hollywood.
The movie is weirdly boring and understimulating at some moments, but that ends up acting to its benefit, as it makes it feel more surreal, i liked that.
I didnt like the psychological aspect of it, it felt like they were explaining the magic but the explanation was dumb.
I wish they had spent more time inside the backrooms, all the things that happen outside are kinda meaningless anyways.

This is the first film by this dude so i hope he learns from what worked and what didnt and keeps making cool films.

The stuff they (CAN not Beefheart) had for radio was more sing song oriented. The long form "freak outs" are more what I was thinking of. I think paperhoude might have more chords than that but I get what you are saying. It applies more to some pieces than others though. They had a lot of long form jamming in there also.

Have to go back to work soonish but yeah. I get why you would think this but that's just their more popular stuff. The longer form jams are sort of both a bit like the Moody Blues or traffic and also closer to Beefheart or Zappa than I would probably like to admit or something similar. Muchlike how Hendrixes commercial stuff tended to be more conventional and shorter. They had some "weirder" more "freak out" tracks aswell. They weren't JUST Paperhouse or Sing Seam Song either. Although I do like some of those aswell.
