I've been looking into this since I've been getting really frustrated with explorer lately (for instance the whole program freezes if the HDD is not spun up)
Supposedly, the code is basically the same since windoes 3.1 and everyone is too scared to touch it

Troons only really stick to Nix and Arch in general, personally I use Fedora cause it actually runs games pretty well. (obligatory Liuns uses Fedora for kernal development)

I think you'll have the least trouble with an AMD GPU. Any X11 environment, KDE Plasma Wayland, a wlroots based compositor is up to you and a matter of personal preference. You can't use GNOME though

if you cant wait or dont want to spend too much money, the quest 2/3/3a are ok with linux when using virtual desktop and specially steam link.

Shit driver and software support because you're effectively using an old version of Windows.
Even if it gets security updates from Microsoft, you're not getting real software support from other vendors and they cannot help you due to legal constraints they have to abide by.
It's a tinkertranny's version of Windows. There are weird errors and quirks that do not appear on main versions of Windows and you are effectively on your own in fixing them and there is barely a community out there that can help you other than 4chan.

For any new linux user, they should find someone they can contact when they can't get the system to boot.
The distro the new user should use is the one recommended by the person they will turn to for help.
Same with which desktop environment to use. Use the one the support person is the most comfortable supporting.
Once they are comfortable with linux, then they can learn more by experimenting with other desktop environments and then other distributions.

Explain to me why I should switch to a different distro just because of political bullshit reasons?

If it goes to shit, then I will switch to something else if that becomes the case. I'm not switching just because of hypotheticals and crackpot predictions that may or may not happen yet. Switching to a different distro is a huge commitment and a major hassle that takes too much of my time because I would have to reinstall all of my applications again, reconfigure it, and on top of that, learn how the new system works different from what I'm used to.
I'm not switching because of muh politics or because of what Lunduke said. Kys obsessed nigger
