Something that suprised me when I got super obsessed with fitness and my health, was finding out that there isn't actually a limit to how healthy you can feel.
I feel better bimonthly, every new change I make to support my health further improves my mood.

 951337[Quote]

>>951334
does improving your health really boost your mood? i thought it was just people being egotistical

 951339[Quote]

>>951333
Don't worry too much about losing it forever. Your body remembers how to handle having muscle and it might take 3-6 months, but you'll get it ALL back.
The problem with stagnating is, you have to work hard just to get back to your previous level. But you literally can't lose muscle like that.
Body builders talk about quitting and say they were able to get their previous mass back within 6 months, super easily

 951341[Quote]

>>951337
There are alot of scientific explanations for it. I think primarily reducing how imflamed you are will be the biggest contributer.
You don't realise how fucked you feel all the time because you're used to it. Then once you get everything in order, you can't even slip up without feeling sick and ill.
That, and after a while, it feels emotionally rewarding to do something good for yourself

 951345[Quote]

>>951337
This and, exercise improves sleep quality, you will intermittently fast which improves sleep quality, you will only drink water because fitness or something so you're regularly hydrated, your diet will improve because you'll care about gains more, etc etc etc
It's a massive postive reinforcment loop. It's important not to try and do it all at once because you'll get tired of it pretty quick.
I think starting with just exercise is enough to change your life forever

Hi chadsigma
Did you work out today?

 951454[Quote]

how do you make the gym enjoyable? at least like cardio is fine because you can just zone out but anything else just bores me out ig this is just a zoomer attention span skill issue

 951456[Quote]

>>951454
Hmm well I started by going with a friend and we both trained as bodybuilders.
Taking pre workout and listening to good music can definitely make weight lifting a fun activity though.
Music hits different while your working out, especially shit that gets you fired up. Lifting weights is the highlight of my day, everyday.
It could be my birthday and I'd still look forward to training in the morning

 951458[Quote]

I think if you have direction (ergo, you know what muscles you wanna train and in what order), then you can stop focussing on the workout itself, and think about literally anything else.
I don't really think about training unless I"m mid set, then I think about whatever the fuck is going on in my life, or focus on the music.

this is initially what started making me go to the gym but those friends were lowk bad people who just vaped all day so i left them and i didnt have friends when i tried going back to the gym
>Taking pre workout and listening to good music can definitely make weight lifting a fun activity though.
i usually never took pre-workout because id forget it. also i dont have earbuds anymore so like i usually never played music
>Music hits different while your working out, especially shit that gets you fired up. Lifting weights is the highlight of my day, everyday.
honestly true tl;dr i gotta invest in some earbuds or headphones

>>951458
i honestly didnt have a direction other than just "get big" but even then i wasnt even making food at home id just skip meals because i usually dont get nusoihungritas. idk i think my biggest issue was worrying too much about the fatigue and dehydration (evendoe i drink a lot of water)

 951492[Quote]

>tl;dr i gotta invest in some earbuds or headphones
I can't work out without headphones. It's something I have to have with me otherwise I'm vulnerable to however I'm feeling that day.
>those friends were lowk bad people
Yeah I was that kinda guy aswell, but I don't talk to those guys anymore either, I never stopped though, and I fixed myself eventually. I don't train with anyone anymore
>because id forget it
Honestly, if you don't drink caffeine, it's probably never worth taking pre workout. You will wanna take it every day, then you'll probably end up drinking more caffeine after your workout.

 951495[Quote]

>i honestly didnt have a direction other than just "get big"
Yeah that's how started. Sorta.
I just wanted to train because I liked it, idk. I think I'm unique in that I love to train. I just love lifting.
And bro, I do not get hungry. lol. You just gotta eat brah.
KNowing how much protein is in each meal you ahve is all you really need to know. Just hit your protein goals, it wokred for me for a while. NOw I obsess over carbs and fat and such, but protein is the most important

 951514[Quote]

kek i at least have 1 cup of coffee in the morning just because it tastes good.

ive always been good about caffeine addictions. i havent touched a energy drink in years and i dont make my coffee strong either.

i used to weightlift for about 2 years as it came with a program i was in. however, it was replaced with something else. working back up to get to afford a gym membership, and in the meantime i'm trying to shed some weight with cardio, both in my house and working harder on the job. food-wise, i've kind of just stopped eating like 1/3 of all meals i get or reduce them. i've looked into calisthenics and am interested but with how many changes i've been making to my schedule recently incorporating calisthenics into my routine is going to have to wait. anything i can do to improve what i'm doing right now?

im fairly poor so i do have to rely on pretty much whatever i can get through the canteen as it is cheapest. i've generally just stopped eating as much of whatever i'd usually eat, as i'm kind of in a transitionary spot right now and waiting to finally have enough money saved (soon enough) to get a gym membership. shit is fucking expensive. i'm just trying to slim down a little while i'm not as physically active (even with doing cardio).
on what i take in, i drink no caffeine, no smoking, no alcohol, no pre-workout or anything. thinking about investing in some creatine down the line but for me that would be pretty much it.
went from 205 to 190 so it seems to be working, but i'm probably going to stop at a minimum of 170-160. i don't want to end up looking like a fucking skeleton.

 951640[Quote]

>>951638
You should at least meal prep instead of getting canteen slop shit.

canteen is pretty shit so i hear you. it is mainly carbs but i try not to eat too many and focus on meat if i get any. i will have enough money here soon to get some actual good shit. on the money problem, its hard to maintain a membership as in my area i have to work odd jobs here and there to scrounge up enough money for bills and things. i should specify that its not always the canteen, i do actually get groceries sometimes, its just that my situation right now really isn't stable and, while 50 a month doesn't seem like much, i need to be saving any leftover money in case something happens to me or any family so i can pitch in. usually gets sealed into savings. like i said previously i will be close to having enough here soon to actually get a membership for a year. i'm more comfortable reserving money to pay out over time than paying out normally over time as i hate dealing with missed payments.

 951646[Quote]

gym is 50 a month and 200 every year to renew, should have specified. tight on money=tight on gas and this is the closest gym near me that won't make using the car a nightmare so i'm kind of just stuck. kind of why i'm interested in calisthenics

 951648[Quote]

Fuck I was going to do this you stole my idea

 951650[Quote]

Just kidding, I appreciate you taking initiative to make this thread, anyway I mostly exercise at home since the gym nearby isn't, though there's this other gym that opened up and I'm thinking of buying a membership there

 951659[Quote]

>>951644
There's a nigga on /pol/ called goku poster who's into calisthenics. You don't need a gym membership to be strong, that's just not true, and you shouldn't jump the gun on a yearly membership either.
You might not even like weight lifting, the gym might be shit etc. I think you should fuck around with calisthenics before getting a membership if you're moneys tight.
<
Fitness is 40% diet, 40% recovery and 20% actually training, so try and max the first two and don't focus too much on what the actual fitness activity is.

 951855[Quote]

>>951854
Pre workout should be judged by ingredients.
As a general rule of thumb:

No more than 300mg of caffeine
at least 3200mg beta alanine
6000-8000mg L citrulline
3000-6000mg AAKG
NO creatine (you should be taking that anyway, extra will only dehydrate you)

Anything else is usually added sloppa. Don't buy pre workouts that have 'combined forumlaes' where they don't tell you the actual ingredient amounts. Check for RED 40 and other trashy flavourings, try to avoid aspartame K(potassium)

You can also totally just take caffeine or drink coffee, the extra pump really doesn't do much for actual performance I've found.

It makes you feel better (immediately and also overall)
It makes you healthier so you live longer and stay younger for longer
It makes you look better and more attractive
It can give you confidence
It will lead you to be healthy in other parts of your life
It gives you something to do when you're bored
You can get really good at a specific skill so there's that aswell

Protein Supplements
>Shakes, Whey powder preferably
Caffeine
>Preworkout, Energy drinks (though use sparingly)
Vitamin supplements
>Multi/Fish Oil/any other you may need. Consult your PC of course
Only things you may need, but you do not need any of these really. They're just PROVEN to support with workout-related needs.

So I'll do barbell squat, RDL's, Ab/adductors, 45 degree back extensions and then calf raises.
Since RDL's don't hit your full hamstring, I'll do hamstring curls every other leg day and leave out RDL's.
I also do either bulgarian split squats with a smith machine, or I'll just do lunges with a 25kg deadlift plate underneeth my squatting foot, so I can get maximal stretch on my quads

 952110[Quote]

>>952109
I alternate between exercises so I get an even quad development without overtraining any muscle.
I fuarking love doing RDL's though so I make an exception for that

 952154[Quote]

Recently I starte controlling the descent on my lifts. I'll lift fast and with intensity, but then I'll retain the tension and slowly drop the weight.
SOmetimes I will sacrifice all form to get 1 more rep out, just to slowly relax the muslce for more of this gain.
<
The tendons in my forearms are 3x bigger and feel like steel cables. My joins are cracking less and less, and my strength is still going up.
My wrists no longer hurt, or feel discomfort from things like moving my PC mouse around, or turning a steering wheel.

should i start going to the gym during sunrise or sunset
i've been waking up earlier and earlier and my gym is a 24 hour one so i think it'll be much more /calm/ if i went to it as soon as the sun was up and there was hardly anyone there
i only really go during sunset since that time kinda works for me, maybe after college sometimes but i prefer to do it during that time, just something i've been accustomed to since i used to ride my bike during that time
i feel like it'd be beneficial since i'd have to interact with less people and i wouldn't have to worry about going to the gym later in the day and it would be nice to get it over with at the beginning of the day
thoughts?

 952828[Quote]

>>952825

sunset would probably help you sleep idk

 952831[Quote]

 952832[Quote]

>>952825
Working out too close to when you should sleep will mess with your sleep quality and overall gainz. Eating food after will also contribute to worsened sleep quality.
Working out first thing works great for me, it really sets me up for the day aswell. It levels me the fuck out, and normal shit doesn't piss me off at all. I can just handle it, yhknow?
<
And if you're in collage, then exercising beforehand will actually improve your memory retention.
Resistance training or cardio increases BDNF (brain derived neutrophic factor) which essentially modulates memory formation for a few hours after the session.
Not only upregulating and improving your memory overall, but it improves your memory right after the session too.
All signs in the fitness community point towards working out as soon as you wake up, so I'd aim to keep this routine if I were you

Collagen "types" dont matter. Collagen as a molecule has to be constructed in a specific way and generally all collagen will give you the same nutrition. The types are in reference to how they are shaped for used in the body(for the tendons skin or joints etc).

Also just eat gelatin, its the cooked form of collagen, its 10x cheaper and its more absorbable. Collagen is a scam.

 952840[Quote]

And type 2 collagen is unheard of basically. Most collagen supps don't even include it.

The first step in getting physically active is training your discipline. An easier way to stick to your training program is to do it either first thing, or do it immediately after getting home from work or college.

If you get into a habit of training, then it gets much harder to make excuses for yourself when the time comes to exercise.

My instructor was a psychopath who didnt differentiate his teaching methods between age groups.
He would humiliate you constantly, always angry at even the tiniest of fuck ups.
God forbid you were having a bad day. He’d suck the sadness right out of you and give you a different kind of loathing to malt over.
Unfortunately, it made me a beast. I won a lot of competitions.

never had any experience and ive always kinda been weak because of my lack of physical activity throughout my life. ive always been too scared anyways to just go outside the house because my mom would just call the cops if i went on a walk because she would be scared that i was gone out of the house for 30+ minutes (this happened when i was walking the dog and i had my phone on airplane mode by accident btw)
<
even then, i was never put into any sports as a kid so i was really bad at any game compared to my peers. i had to find my own life myself and boxing was that opportunity. im at least lucky ive had the opportunities and support to be where i am now by others and i still love my family for who they are but like damn is it hard to work with them on this issue.
<
ive at least been trying to get them off of my tail so nowadays i dont ask them when i leave the house and they seem to care less and less now.

tl;dr shitty childhood, society post-covid19, and i basically just had to do things myself

<
my boxing coach was a lot less strict which im pretty thankful for and he was a good guy who would make your day better. i liked his grandkids as well they were funny but they always got in trouble so hed have to snap and get out a ruler and hit them.
<
wish i stuck around for more than 2 years because i never went into any competitions. then again though i wasnt eating any food and i didnt even do my mile runs every morning

Cold showers are great for reducing inflammation, DOMs and general muscle soreness, it feels amazing after 3 minutes, it’s naturally stimulating, it’s fucking hard so it trains your willpower, it raises your testosterone because of this, it’s good for your cardiovascular health, it buffs your immune system
Just make sure you do it BEFORE a workout and not immediately after. Otherwise it substantially blunts your gains.
You gotta do it every day too.

If I don’t use it after cardio, then I suffer next leg day.
And sprinting shouldn’t impact your muscle gains if your form is good, and if you only do it for maybe 3-4 minutes total.
I imagine running for longer than 20 minutes will start to eat into your recovery

Caffeine addiction isnt really a thing. It's caffeine dependence.
<reddit
An addiction is when you can't stop using something and you keep compulsively using ev&doe its fucking up your health, your relationships, your finances, etc. Nobody is losing their job, getting divorced, or whoring themselves out because of caffeine.
<reddit
Dependence is when your body and your mind have gotten used to you taking something regularly, and if you stop taking it you experience withdrawal symptoms. A cancer patient who has been prescribed opioid painkillers for a long time would have an opioid dependence, but wouldn't be an addict.

Fact nvke
But I was definitely addicted I don’t think I can handle drinking more than 300mg at once without craving more within an hour, so I fixed it by having 1/3 of the amount I usually have.

The gym I go to is finally back to its regular levels.
Most people fuel their fitness motivation off of shit like New Year’s resolutions, breaking up with their partner, being lonely on Valentine’s Day or having a shitty date; and as you can see, that only got them 2 months of activity.
They will let their gym membership run on, and they might come back in a few months when they remember that they’re wasting their time again.
All you have to do is make it to month 3. That’s all you have to do to outperform everyone around you.

It's because for a beneficial dose of resveratol you need a hell of a lot of it.
And it's only found in trace amounts in fruits.
Fruits are good for you because of vitamins and then sometimes antioxidants like this (and other similar compounds), but if you just supplement them then the fruit you eat is more sugar which, I don't know about you, really fucks with my focus.
Some fruit in the morning or pre workout is great, but having fruit while I'm trying to work makes me very lethargic while it fucks with my blood glucose levels

Problem with having a /fit/ general
You can’t make multiple threads
I can talk about supplements, peptides, roids, nootropics, longevity and all sorts of health shit all day long
But this is the fitness general.

Unfit for the /fit/ general and I've tried waking up early with great results so far.

What would you like to gain right now from lifting?
If you want strength and size then lift weights
If you like cardio then just do some cardio

Weight lifting is pretty easy, you push things on one day, pull things on the next, then hit your legs after that, then take a day off.
Of course it’s gonna get more complicated from here on out, but that’s the gist of a training regimen

 963512[Quote]

is pooping good exercise

 963557[Quote]

>>963505
Surely you don't have to have a demarcation between cardio and weight lifting? I enjoy finishing off with cardio after a workout or while waiting for a machine to be free

 963569[Quote]

>>963557
If you enjoy this then that’s fucking awesome dude keep at it
I personally spend my rest days doing cardio
It’s just I don’t wanna overwhelm a newbie, it’s helpful to pick a practise and get good at that first before you start adding stuff in. I think building discipline right at the start is way more important than what exercises you do

Bulgarian death squats? Do you mean split squats?
I use a smith machine and a I use a thick deadlift plate underneath my squating foot for more range of motion.
They fucking suck. That's why I do them though.
<
Leg press is, performative…. You can argue against that but almost any other squatting exercise is superior. I always found that overtraining my legs not only hindered my muscle growth, but reduced my ability to ENJOY leg day.
I only do one quad exercise per leg day, one hamsting exercise, one calf exercise, ab and adductors.
I got my barbell squat up to 182.5kg - 405lbs AFTER reducing the amount of work done to my quads.
So maybe just do split squats and ditch the leg press. I can leg press almost 400kg+ but what does that even mean if it's not as beneficial as other quad exercises?
<
If you're sure you're not fatigued, then I can advise you to start doing some cardio here and there. I can go to failure on my squatting lifts much more efficiently now that my VO2 max is higher and my cardio is better :)

 963839[Quote]

>>963778
I've never read romance, I feel like I could enjoy it but I don't wanna feel lonely or something

>I can go to failure on my squatting lifts much more efficiently now that my VO2 max is higher and my cardio is better :)
My heart rate going to failure on bulgarian split squats used to spike up to 170+ and now it caps at about 135
So also, just doing them more will make improve your endurance overtime (given that you're not overtraining)

i actually suffer from a lower/upper imbalance (legs are way stronger than upper body) so i only do one day of legs per week. thats why i cram maximum volume in that one day so i can at least get a little bit of gains and keep momentum during the bulk period.
<jew space
i know they are called split squats but i call them death squats cuz its so fitting

 964218[Quote]

>>964121
Hm interesting
I think everyone is like this with upper/lower body strength, I mean your legs are essentially just massive muscles made to be extremely resilient to fatigue.
Maybe, try and alternate your quad exercises, so one week do split squat -> leg press and next week do barbell squat and leg extensions, so your muscles can heal better.
Lifting is only 20% of the work, the other 80% is all recovery

Most vitamin C supplements are manufactured from Chinese synthesised vitamin C, quality control there is undoubtably questionable, and you could be doing more damage than good (high heavy metal content being the main concern).
Make sure your vitamin C has been third party tested by the company you’re buying it off

i know its cliche but i compared my lifts with my friends and i did those tests that measure your fat and muscle mass and it confirmed the pretty severe lack of strength in upper body compared to lower… unfortunately legs dont really help with my goal of being lean but i still maintain them, the extra muscle serves well when doing cuts and helps with lowering the overall body fat %
