He likely hasn't been drinking for that long and the amounts he drinks (half a solo cup or more of mixed rum) isn't very large, so this probably wouldn't be the case. I used to drink a glass or more of liquor (typically 30-40% ABV) most nights (I weigh <60kg), and would get blackout drunk and vomit on multiple occasions. Quitting cold turkey was easy and involved no physical symptoms.
