Anyone else feel like the internet peaked when everything wasn't trying to become an app?

Every website used to have its own personality. Forums looked different, people had signatures and avatars, and you actually recognized usernames after a while. Now every platform is chasing the same endless feed, every site wants you scrolling forever, and everything gets flattened into short clips or screenshots reposted somewhere else.

Maybe it's nostalgia talking, but it feels like we've traded smaller communities for algorithms deciding what everyone sees. Half the time I find something interesting it's because someone linked it from somewhere else instead of the site itself.

What's one thing from the old internet you'd actually bring back if you could? Not talking about dial-up or Flash games, just stuff that made browsing feel less homogenized.
