I think there's certain sounds you can make that they'll understand, try searching it up since I myself don't really remember. Definitely get two cats so that they won't be so alone, anymore than two cats and their relationships get problematic (social hierarchies, etc.). Definitely invest in a cat water fountain since cats don't like drinking from stagnant water, they might have dehydration problems later on if you don't. Their food bowls should be somewhat similar to picrel so that their whiskers aren't brushing up against the bowl while they eat, also put a good distance between their food and water. Don't bother buying a cat bed since they probably won't use them, use cardboard boxes instead. I would also buy those cat scratchers that you can attach to the side of your furniture because your furniture WILL get torn up over time, as for regular cat stratchers definitely buy those cardboard ones, or you can make your own with just boxes and glue. As for their litter box, I don't really have much to say other than getting a mat to catch any extra litter that may stick onto them, my family does have those litter boxes with a top cover but those are expensive and in my experience only last about 2 years, granted I do beat it around on some occasions but they're made of cheap plastic anyway, an open top litter box is fine, definitely don't buy any cat litter that says "lightweight" or is scented. Lightweight cat litter leaves a lot of dust everywhere and scented cat litter is harsh on their noses. There are certain plants and common household chemicals that are life threatening for cats, I don't remember what they are off the top of my head so search it up online. Cats do get pretty rowdy at night sometimes so don't be surprised when they're bouncing off walls at 10 pm. Despite living with a lot of cats my entire life I don't have that much else to say, it's worth getting a spray bottle to spray them once or twice when they're doing something stupid. If the cat is timid at first try letting it smell your finger and blink slowly at them while doing it, blinking slowly is showing you trust them in their language. If you do get a second cat so the first won't be lonely I would adopt a stray, it's expensive at first with vet checkups and disease shots but adopted strays are much more appreciative of everything and aren't spoiled/feisty/annoying.
