Happy Good Friday, Folx.
Jesus wasn't a drunk. the wine was 2% and they drank maybe 2-3 goblets of it a day. basically nursing the equivalent of a beer or two.
Wine today is a minimum 7.5% and most are closer to 13-14%

So never call Christ a drunk.

For a very long time, alcohol was used as a safe drinking water alternative. It was heavily diluted to make water safe without needing to boil it for 30 minutes every few days. Especially in the arid climates where evaporation is higher, water is more scarce, and what natural water there is can be extremely sketchy becaues it's been standing for 6 weeks. It's often mentioned at banquets and parties because you don't want to eat a bunch of food that was way more difficult to source and prepare, drink some bad water, and then vomit all that food back out. People will say just about everything was more utilitarian 1,000 years ago, and then selectively ignore alcohol and drinking water. In the modern world, consuming alcohol is pretty stupid and you're basically a corporate/social slave for consuming it.
