For those who don’t know, Charlotte was a trans woman who tragically took her own life by jumping off the Portland Bridge, and instead of showing a shred of respect or decency, there are low-life scumbags out there turning her pain into a punchline. It’s sickening! How dare you sit behind your little keyboards or run your mouths at bars, cracking jokes about someone who was so clearly suffering, someone who felt so alone and broken that they saw no other way out. Do you have any idea what she might have gone through? The constant hate, the rejection, the disgust thrown at her just for existing as who she was? Trans people already face an uphill battle every single day—discrimination, violence, being ostracized by family and friends—and then they have to deal with vultures like you who think it’s hilarious to mock a person’s final, desperate act. You’re not funny; you’re pathetic. You’re the lowest of the low, feeding off someone else’s tragedy to make yourself feel superior for two seconds. Charlotte deserved better than this. She deserved compassion, understanding, and a world that didn’t chew her up and spit her out. And now, even in death, she can’t rest because of the vile garbage spewing from people’s mouths. I’m so enraged I can barely type straight every one of you who’s laughed at this, shared a meme, or made a snide comment, you’re part of the problem. You’re the reason people like Charlotte feel like they have nowhere to turn. You’re the reason the world is uglier than it needs to be. Stop hiding behind “it’s just a joke” or “get over it” your words have weight, and they cut deeper than you’ll ever admit. If you’ve got nothing kind to say, then shut the hell up. Let Charlotte’s memory be treated with the respect she was denied in life.
