The reason why most societies nowadays see marrying anyone under 18 as le bad (and rightfully so) is because childhoods now last way longer than they used to. Education and school is longer, people under 18 cant vote or join the military etc etc. itβs slower to mature
In Islam, the age of consent is puberty AND sound judgement, (rushd) and evolves according to your era and place, not just one singular age that should be set for all of eternity, for all places globally no matter what. Obviously, a 9 year old (or anyone below 18) in 21st century America would not have sound judgement or intellect to consent. That would be immorally wrong and haram. Why do you think so many Muslim countries and modern day scholars have set the age of consent as 18?
