I never played WoW since it's MMO but I like WC3 campaigns and custom games

WoW is a time sink and requires many hours to play, if you try private servers I would recommend you to try Turtle WoW as a first timer, but I warn you that the players there are dogshit and they are gigaESL, also stay away from ascension since that server is fucking dogshit and killed project epoch and issa shithole. You can also check the 4chan /vg/ /wpsg/ thread to find nu servers to play which is what I basically did for some months
