(You) are Commodore Bvmo, a high officer of the Soy Republic Navy. You are currently in command of a squadron operating off the Splinter Seas. No doubt, a least honorable mission…
<picrel 2
Your squadron currently consists of the frigate and your flagship SS (Soy Ship) Gem, the sloop-of-war SS Goldson, and the armed sloop SS Breakfast Dinner. Your crew and officers are well-drilled professionals, but it's been a while since you've seen action so they may be out of practice.
<picrel 3
Your current task is to escort the corvette, SS Soylent, to the Giga Empire. She is carrying an exceptionally large gift of gems and Sproke, as a reward for no giggers having received rule 2 bans that week. She would no doubt be an inviting target to any daring raiders in the area, but it was expected that your squadron, the frigate especially, would be enough to deter any niggers or trannies wishing to defile a good gem.
<picrel 4

Lesothan corsairs! Bearing to the southeast! Two small vessels sighted, xir. No doubt they have their eyes on the SS Soylent. Their two raiding ships, while fast, pose little threat to our fleet, but if they are so bold as to attack now, there are surely others operating in the area who would be attracted to the sounds of battle.

Their ships are faster than any of ours and they currently have the wind advantage. There are safe waters ahead, but the SS Soylent is especially slow with the cargo she's carrying and it's unlikely you will be able to avoid battle completely. We can continue on our course or engage the Lesothans now while they are few in number. What will (You) do?

You give the order for your ships to form a line, turn to port, and switch to battle sails. The Lesothans seem to be heading for the front of your formation, no doubt to avoid the kill zone you've created in the center.
<picrel 2
A third corsair, bearing east! This may just be the first of many to come.
<picrel 3
Your ships can fire round shot (effective at any range, attacks hull, crew, and masts), chainshot (effective mid-short range, attacks mobility) and grapeshot (effective short range, attacks crew). Unless stated otherwise, they will begin firing round shot at the Lesothans as soon as they are within range. Your orders?

You begin turning North to cut off the Lesothans before they reach the front of your formation. Their xebecs, maneuverable as they are, simply turn west and begin closing in on SS Soylent. Your ships at the center of the line open fire, but their small guns are mostly ineffective at that range. The Captain of the Soylent is quite cross with you.

The speed of those vessels! The corsairs begin wrapping around your formation before Soylent can even build momentum. Breakfast Dinner took initiative to turn and face the attackers before xhe and Soylent were raked. Gem and Goldson have slowed to a crawl, but the wind makes it difficult for them to move towards the ships in the rear. Breakfast Dinner receives minor damage from the exchange.
<picrel
You're in a precarious situation. The third corsair has finished gooning and has begun closing in from the east, meanwhile your VIP and the smallest ship in your fleet are in danger of being isolated by the two initial attackers. Soylent is a fairly sturdy ship and capable of defending herself, especially with Breakfast Dinner's help, but these two ships may just be softening them up for more to come. What do you do? im trans btw

Just to clarify, you want to move the Gem south?

 β„–15218947[Quote]

yes, the corsairs should move fast while pursuing the soylent, so as long as the ss gem is in good position to fire broadside by the time the corsairs go past we should be able to take care of the immediate threat

Breakfast Dinner turns to cover Soylent from the west, while Gem and Goldson move to cover Soylent from the east against the incoming corsair. Soylent also turns to bear her guns on the enemy. Gem will begin movements to try and drive-by the westbound corsairs with grapeshot.
<picrel
You have resolved the immediate threat to Soylent and formed a good defensive formation. We will see how Gem's maneuver plays out.
