>hi all!

>after lots of feedback, I wanted to say I appreciate you letting me know about why people see "clanker" as harmful. I'll be honest, I genuinely had never seen it being co-opted by racists, or used as an actual slur/a stand-in for one. I had only seen it in jokes/satire about AI being treated as if it was human, and assumed it was mostly people not getting the joke (or that it was initially a Star Wars reference), so I dismissed the criticism. after some of my POC fans and viewers have explained to me exactly why it was offensive, it greatly saddens me to know that people are actually using it to hurt others (real people), and that I contributed to that hurt.

>I admittedly can be a bit of a stubborn edgelord at times. that aspect of me first developed when I started using humor and roasting as a defense mechanism against the people who made my life difficult. obviously this isn't an excuse, but getting defensive over criticism, or dismissing it with humor without considering larger implications, is something I'm still working on.

>I’ve been called slurs before as a queer person and a Jewish person, but you guys are right. I’ve never been called something with a hard -ER at the end, and I’ll never know how that will feel, or how it feels to hear slurs or pejoratives (joking or not) that evoke that hurt and fear. I make videos with the intention of making you guys laugh or at least trying to make your days a bit better than they were before. if you walk away from one of my videos feeling hurt or offended or uncomfortable, I didn't do my job as a content creator or a comedy writer. your feedback helps me make better content that everyone can enjoy, and I'm training my instincts to not have an immediately defensive knee-jerk reaction to criticism.

>to those of you defending my use of it: when people with different lived experiences tell you you're making them uncomfortable, or evoking a hurtful aspect of their everyday lives, even if it's just a joke—please listen.

>the joke has been played out anyway, and if not using an already-hacky joke makes your viewing experience better, I'm more than happy to retire it from my vocabulary. thank you guys for educating me transheart
