he had a few known usernames before stonetoss iirc, they probably found something off that

If I'm not mistaken they linked stonetoss to a chain of older accounts and eventually managed to link it to his personal account based on matching things like old usernames and coinciding dates, for example his personal account and stonetoss arriving in japan at the same time
