While you're studying, look up random subjects on the internet and if they interest you, learn about them and try them out yourself if you can. I recommend youtube, as longer videos allow for a more thorough explanation. For example, look up things like "diy [x]" or "how to make [x]" to see the process of someone who works in the industry. "How it's made" videos are a Godsend, but you must be curious enough to want to explore different subjects
