Dogs seem like too much effort though. I nor my family growing up ever owed a pet so I have no prior experience. A dog might actually make me a bigger faggot for putting so much devotion into it while a cat is just sort of a comfort animal.

Get a female cat and get her neutered at the appropriate age, that's the easiest way. An un-neutered female cat is gonna either drive you insane every spring (if you live in an apartment building) or give birth to kittens every year (if you live in a house). A male cat is gonna drive you insane too if you live in an apartment, or fight other cats every day and come back with scars if you live in a house. And cutting off lil nigga's balls is cruel and whoever does that will go to hell. So just get a girl and neuter her.

Some more advice from mi:
1. NEVER get a cat with long hair, you'll be finding that fucker's hair everywhere and you vacuum is gonna fill up and explode.
2. Try to feed the cat real food i.e. meat or meat trimmings instead of store bought cat feed. That shit is awful, imagine subjecting your little friend to a life of consuming factory-produced goyslop with soy protein.
3. It's always better to have two or more cats than one. Not for your sake, but for the cats' sake. Socialization is important o algo. But if you don't have enough room or time for two cats then one is perfectly fine.

I have a cat.
Males are calmer but pickier about people, and females are more dominant, but you have to play with them more often since they're more active.
Get a single cat AT MOST. If you get a second one there's a chance that they'll hate each other to the point of violence.
As for breeds, it depends on what you want. From my experience fur patterns can also influence personality. You can look that up, but from what I remember white cats are calmer than most but can become deaf (this is a genetic side-effect of all white animals btw) and are more tolerable if you're allergic. Black cats can cause greater allergic reactions, and calicos are the sassy ones. They are extremely active and playful, but do whatever THEY want. They are also the only fur pattern that's not common on males (if it is, it means that the guy can't produce sperm).

By bothering your ass on any occasion until you figure something out. It's a given, but it's especially bad when the cat is picky about toys, then you have to guess what the cat wants.

Preferably dry slop food and real meat for the wet variant. Change the diet into full goyslop ONCE and you could end up with a cat that only wants to eat goyslop (it's really addicting for cats)

Remember that fur patterns are a spectrum when it comes to allergies. Orange cats should be fine for example, not sure about tuxedos or the white-red-black calicos. Black fur is usually a good metric, but your mileage may vary.

Just keep in mind that a white cat could suddenly act out because it can't hear shit and only uses vibrations to analyze the world. Orange cats look cute but can be extremely retarded. Tuxedo and calico cats are nice in my experience, but again, your mileage may vary.
