I guess my strategy would be to "make friends not lovers" and possibly LARPing as confident. I'm not the type to change for others, but I know enough pop culture stuff to (almost) confidently talk about things, even if I never watch the source material and just look up cringy shit on the subject. It can theoretically be good small talk, but the downside is that people could get a false image of me.

My tip is to be consciously dumb. A dumb person or a midwit doesn't overthink, he just talks to people about God-knows-what with full confidence. It sucks, but it works. To know what subjects people know you have to learn about them. For me it goes something like this:
>Learn about hot new thing
>Never consume the hot new thing in question because I'm a contrarian (willingly or not, I just don't care)
>Consume fan-related media to it instead (fandom wikis, youtube videos, 'blox games if I'm really daring)
>Come back with basic knowledge of the thing through spoilers and fan discussion
Your mileage may vary, but that's how I know some characters and plotlines from Helluva Boss for example. Think of it as a Swiss army knife, not all tools can be used anywhere, but they become really useful when you need them.

My main problem is that my friend circle consists of: 1) car freaks 2) audiophiles 3) druggies (big overlap between this one and the other two)

In the case of Helluva Boss and shows by Vivziecuck in general, much of the fandom is alt-women and very rarely soyboys in my experience. What subject comes handy is entirely dependent on observing people, again taking HB as an example, fans of that show LOOK like fans of that show if you know what I mean. Knowing goyslop trivia is a great way to start a conversation, and therefore meeting people. If someone is wearing a t-shirt of some rock band for example, you can just approach them and go

Your mileage may vary, but it's better to try than to regret later. You could use what you know about cars or music to your advantage. Drugs aren't that important and could put you in trouble.
