Not very familiar with the field, but if you care about moral there is one group called Executive Outcomes. That does peacekeeping job

every commercial company is always cutting costs: you'll be dissatisfied with the product you make knowing its shit and just a worse iteration of something that was fine 30 years ago
most commercial companies have no, or barely any R&D, everything gets "black-box outsooorced" which essentially means "instead of designing it ourselves we paid 2 indians/gooks 20$ to do it for us" with abysmal results, naturally
defense contractors cant do this, they're forced to make (nearly) every component in house in the US, and on top of that, they have infinite R&D money.

it's fine but you'll have to work hard. I think at this point in your life you should know if you're good at maths and physics.
