unlike europe, african countries are not ethnically homogeneous, because of marriage customs two tribes no more than 10km apart can be wildly different in height, appearance, strength etc
taking the average height of say, congo, makes no sense. Hutu, bantus, bushmen etc are all extremely different.
This is on top of regional differences in nutrition: the Masai (kenya, tanzania) are taller because they raise cattle (and drink milk), as are N african nomads, whereas the tribes that live in jungles tend to be smaller
