your theology is flawed. while yes, we should be "independent" and work towards things ourselves, God is willing to help with the things we cannot possibly do ourselves. God wants to help you out of love.

It depends on what you pray for. If you're struggling with a personal issue like lust then it's good to pray, but I wouldn't pray for money or material goods unless you're in desperate need of them

Your best bet in regards to prayer is praying for God's Will to be done in you. If you keep praying for this, God will grant it to you. His Holy Will benefits all who love Him.

I'm still torn between all the denominational issues in Christianity, I know Jesus is God but so do demons, I sin daily and I feel much more distant from theological curiosity than I was when I first started. I feel despondent, like I'm just figuring out why I'm going to hell not if I can go to heaven. If there's no free will I'm unsaved and if salvation involves good works mine aren't enough. In any event, prayer is conversation, prayer is the admission that you can't do it alone which sounds simple but goes against the base foundation for all of man's sins, the idea that we can do it ourselves.

I was in the same boat as you a 6 months ago. I was a baptist studying all the protestant denominations (methodist, presbyterian, espicopalian, lutheran, etc), and after a long time of searching, none of them were the Trvth i was after. Its all just some variation of a personal bible interpretation. After searching for so long, i had one option left: the Orthodox Church. (I didnt chopse roman catholicism because i believe they drifted away from orthodoxy) So i bit the bullet, googled the nearest Orthodox Church, and went there. They were extremely friendly and welcoming. My search for the Trvth was over, i finally felt at peace. It was the best decision ive ever made.

'teen, i recommend that you find an Orthodox Church near you and go one Sunday. Its hard to explain what the services are like so its better to come and see it for yourself. Regarding questions about theology, you can google your question and append "orthodox" after it. God bless.
