Something I have learned is that your mindset should be like this; while it is good to develop your social skills, it is also prudent to make sure you do not become like those you socialize with. That is to say, make sure you are actively avoiding their mannerisms, nonsense vocabulary, etc. You may have heard the phrase "Be in the world, not of it", that is basically the way you should look at it.
