That's not too retarded. It was probably done to make it easy to download the entire folder rather than for compression.
Annoying if you wanted to download just one game though.

The latest version of wine is awesome though. It has native WoW64 support which means you can use it without any 32-bit libs installed.
Feels really nice not having them wasting my disk space or making updates take longer.

i dont remember if steam finally stopped doing this on arch but i dont really have to care about that since im on nixos and force myself to do stupid shit
