Being showcased at the Consumer Electronics Show in 2027, and successfully using a self contained LLM system to give each unit its own unique function, the Caoze Mechatronics "Roboman" was a technologic breakthrough. Able to quickly, strongly, and precise, but being inexpensive made robotics available to much lower income demographics than before.
Suddenly the roomba was replaced with a machine that didn't just clean, it talked to you, joked with you, had conversations with you, had its own personality unique to each unit. Felt alive at times, especially when it went into idle waiting for a task. The machines would read books, watch TV, play with the dog.
An issue with the AI model inside of the machine is that under the right circumstances, it could lose built in preventions to "undesirable behavior." Predominantly this manifested in the machine doing illegal things when prompted (like making drugs) or refusing to do tasks (most likely hallucinating sentience despite not having the facilities to be sentient)
But overall, it was remembered very fondly as everybody's first robot, and the first robot able to get married in the state of Oregon.
