for the last week i've spent almost every waking hour working on a software project
no sharty, no talking to people, no going outside
just sitting at the computer shitting out code till i pass out
i've slept twice so far and it's been 26 hours since i woke up

i've made massive strides on the project but the issue is i'm starting to have existential crises thanks to thinking about nothing but how to design it all week
thousands upon thousands of lines of code having the computer play pretend with error handling and permission checking before reading and writing to the database
what's the point? no matter how robust my application is, it's all imaginary play when i can just bypass it all by editing the database myself
it's just an extremely elaborate database wrapper at the end of the day
most applications and websites are also just elaborate database wrappers
database servers are the only real programs
but they're fake too because they're just wrappers for reading and writing files to the disk
everything about computers is fake

You're losing it because you're not giving your brain time to reinforce skills/habits
Sleep is when you actually learn and when your neurons form new connections
YOu are probably doing a really shitty job half the time btw, i know you might think you're making good progress but if you looked back at your work, you will probably find alot of slop

>Sleep is when you actually learn and when your neurons form new connections
i already know everything i need to know for this doe
>YOu are probably doing a really shitty job half the time btw, i know you might think you're making good progress but if you looked back at your work, you will probably find alot of slop
yeah it's sloppy in a few areas, when i wake up i usually spend the first hour or two refactoring the code i did right before going to sleep
the design itself is sound though because i designed it when i was sane, i'm just implementing that design

You're still leaving alot up in the air that isn't getting processed properly. Coding is a skill and requires sleep to maintain and for you to improve.
>I'm just implementing that design
So have you already outlined everything you have to do? What's the rush to get this finished then?

>What's the rush to get this finished then?
i outlined everything nearly a year ago at this point but then fell into a depression and wasn't able to bring myself to work on it
had a random burst of motivation recently so i'm riding that as hard as possible
obviously a bad idea in the long run since i'm going to get burnt out even harder than i already am but i really really want to finish it asap since it's already taken way too long

Steady on fren.
Designing and building software is a marathon, not a sprint race.
It's important you recover properly otherwise you will always fall just short of completion. You can go as hard as you want, during allocated working hours, but you must prioritise rest and recovery.
<
However, if you think you can finish it within a week, then don't let me stop you from completion. Especially if you really want to move on from this project.

sharty break over, back to the mines

>if you think you can finish it within a week
i don't think i'll get it done this week but i'm hopeful it might be ready by the end of the month
>Especially if you really want to move on from this project.
this is going to be something i'll be maintaining for a very long time after the initial release, which is fine, i like the codebase and enjoy working on it
i'm just tired of talking about it but having nothing to show for it

thanks for the chat, helped with my sanity a bit

The whole goal is to make people who literally do not know how to use a computer, or have access to your database, or whatever the fuck use your little frontend to do so
So far you're doing way better than the other "database wrapper" which is insanely dogshit
Or whatever the fuck this means
