TLDR: There's currently a script on archive.today that makes your browser silently spam requests to a certain site, with the intention of using the combined traffic of all archive.today vistors to DDoS that site.
Do not visit archive.today/archive.ph/archive.is/etc with javascript enabled.
https://gyrovague.com/2026/02/01/archive-today-is-directing-a-ddos-attack-against-my-blog/I stumbled upon this blog today after spotting the DDoS behaviour it talks about myself whilst using the browser console to figure out why archive.ph was giving me an infinite captcha loop.
Essentially, archive.today's owner is trying to destroy this blog by any means possible because three years ago they published an article investigating who runs archive.today.
I can understand why he'd want it gone, archive.today's survival definitely hinges on the owner remaining anonymous to avoid legal issues.
But I'm livid to learn that he's been abusing me and his other users as botnet drones. What makes it even worse is archive.today started blocking VPNs recently too. Just having a botnet spam requests wasn't good for him I guess, selfish little fuck wanted those requests to come from residential IPs.
It's also ridiculously stupid as well as immoral, since it's just drawing attention to this blog I otherwise never would have heard of.
So stupid that I think it's intentional. I bet it's a faildox and he's trying to throw off current doxing efforts by fooling people into thinking this one from 3 years ago was accurate.
Fuck archivists.

>>940579>can you even save files on archive.today like people do with archive.org?Nah I just thought he hates archivists in general
Though I feel like if you're running an archival site that wont taken down anything unless its illegal you would probably want 0 information about you anywhere
Albeit this nigger probably never responds to reports too like every popular website hoster webmaster whatever nowadays
ā940587[Quote]
either he removed it, made it exclusive to certain ips or it's fake

>>940755It's evil. This isn't some harmless prank.
It could burn through data caps and get people's home IPs falsely flagged as compromised.
DDoSing sites is keyed but using innocent people's connections to do it isn't.
ā940760[Quote]
>>940756Idk, idrk how ddossing works I just know it's overloading some service with data.
I don't know if you can reverse this and have your ip blocklisted from amazon or whatever, I just imagine that since it's a regulated service then the owner of said service has put in measures to at least try and protect it's users from reprocusions.
ā940761[Quote]
>>940759There are definitely departments in your favourite 3 letter agency dedicated to finding out weather someone is hostile or not, they will link the ddos to the host website after finding what you found out.
>buring through data caps\And surely it would be capped by upload speed?
ā940765[Quote]
>>940761it means sites will block you
ā940767[Quote]
>>940765Is there like a database where these ip's are uploaded to? What are the chances of this even happening
Idk why I'm even arguing this point but I wanna know because, who tf would leverage their userbase into something like a ddos attack?
ā940769[Quote]
>>940761I'm not talking about glowniggers when I say falsely flagged as compromised. You know how some VPN IPs get cloudflare challenges everywhere, impossible recaptchas, etc?
There are such things as IP reputation databases. If your IP is used for DDoS attacks then it'll get flagged and everything will start rejecting it.
That's why Cloudflare offers their services for free. The more sites they serve, the more IP reputation data they can collect.
ā940771[Quote]
>>940769Very informative, thank you.
I didn't expect there to be such a thing like this because of the sheer scale of ipv4, but that's cool I guess
Yeah I guess it is evil
ā940774[Quote]
>>940761>And surely it would be capped by upload speed?I know people with 1GB per month mobile plans
That webpage is 340KB and the script downloads it every 300ms
That's roughly 1MB per second so keeping the page open for 1000 seconds (roughly 15 minutes I think) would be enough to completely go through their plan for the month
>>940771https://www.abuseipdb.com/check/146.70.94.3This one is really widely used. Here's my current VPN IP on it.
Tons of reports kek

>>940560 (OP)The thing about sites like this, is that they love to proclaim they're free speech aficionado's, as a source to prove that makes you believe that they actually care about "preserving the Internet".
In reality, the owners of said platforms have massive ego's and the sense that they're "doing" a favor to the Internet to justify censorship and whatever reasons they have to personally take down things they don't like.
I'm not sure if I can even recommend a site like this to anyone, knowing how the owner intentionally does shady shit like this to try and get a blog taken down. You're supposed to be one of the services that provides for the Internet, but you're giving more attention to something that you don't want to give attention because of your constant harassment of said blog owner. How is this acting as an "archive" service.
Any service, that disguises its self as something, then uses user data for the owner's own use.
This is gross, and the fact that it's coming from one person, not even a huge conglomerate behind this makes me upset. With something like Internet Archive, I can see why they would take shit they personally don't like, because they're a non-profit organization that relies on sponsorships to stay afloat but coming from a single person I thought to be trusted is baffling to me.
