In the Latin script, there was no svch thing as a "U", instead the "V" was vsed in its place. Now when we write in Latin we differentiate, but if yov look at old Roman writings or engravings, you can still see it. For example, yov might see an engraving "SENATVS POPVLVSQVE ROMANVS". Even some new engravings do this. So, with this backgrovnd, replacing yovr "U" with "V" gives a kind of traditional, antiqvated feel.
