i think i might switch to starlink once my current broadband contract expires
i was reading about how it's the only way for iranian civilians to access the internet right now since the government there completely shut down the country's internet on the 8th
iran's goverment has been trying to jam starlink's signal there too to cut it off but it's apparently resilient enough to continue functioning, albeit with fairly heavy packet loss
very good PR for a paranoid chuddy like me who worries about my government trying to restrict internet access

so i took a look at the prices for it here and it turns out it's a better deal than my current internet plan too
right now i pay (((BT))) £35/month for 50mbps
the only downside to switching to starlink would be higher latency since it's satellite based but i don't play online games anyway so an extra 50-100ms latency wouldn't bother me at all

Because the signal for satcom is incredibly tight on a very low wavelength that can be jammed by literally anything at the cost of affecting military satellites

This gets worse during stormy weather and your transfer rates dump, it's also very bad during winter and heavy fog because the water absorbs all of the radio waves
Not the worst thing ever but it's really only an option if you have no other choices

I forgot to mention that running these jammers for long periods of time are also incredibly expensive and have a moderate range, so they can only be deployed in urban centers
