Hi /qa/, I had a really good morning today.
Last night, I didn't go to bed until about 3:30am. Great idea when you need to be up by 7.
So I ended up sleeping through my alarm and waking up at 9am instead.

Debated just skipping class, since I'm only in from 9-12 today and I hate this particular subject.
That subject being "The impact of computing". Which is just writing reports about how computers have changed the way we live life. Completely useless to me since I want to be a software engineer, not a philosopher.

But I decided to stop being a nigger recently, so I forced myself out of bed and emailed the lecturer to say I'd be 40 minutes late.
This particular lecturer likes to pick on people who arrive late by asking them to explain whatever the current topic is to the class.
Sure enough, when I arrived she asked me to share my thoughts on the current topic with the class.
With that topic being "Social media causing social isolation among young people". Which is something I've been rambling about on here a lot lately.

So instead of saying something like "Yeah I agree it's bad" then claming up like I usually would, I opened up about my own struggles with it.
I explained that I have no real life friends because I spend all my time online.
That I'm afraid to approach people.
That the people I talk with online may as well be imaginary friends, since we live in different countries, we don't know each other's names, we don't even know each other's interests aside from being users of the same site.

This truthnuke seemed to just be saying out loud what everyone else was thinking, since other people immediately started saying they could relate and chimed in with their own anecdotes like being worried that anything embarrassing they say or do could be recorded and put on social media.
Easily the most enjoyable IRL conversation I've ever had.
One guy disagreed with me and said online friends were better than IRL friends because you choose your online friends while you end up with your IRL friends by chance. I think he was coping but it was fun to casually debate that with him.

I think "The impact of computing" is my favourite subject now. I've realised it's not useless bullshit just slapped onto the time table for the sake of it, it's probably intended to spark conversations and by extension friendships between students like this.
I'm glad I decided not to skip in the end, and I'm glad I was late.

Also thanks to Null trying to force "Dox is out, phonebook is in" on kiwifarms a while ago, I had to stop myself from bursting out laughing when the lecturer started talking about how back in her day people used phonebooks.
