is it just me or do modern game graphics look like dograisin? i cant stand the plastic feel of new games. anything past the 32-bit CPU era looks like the exact same thing over and over and over again.
<
lets look at The Outer Worlds for example since this game is what completely irked me enough to make this post. theres nothing interesting about this game whatsoever. the graphics are even more dissapointing as it all looks like vaguely textured plastic. this trend even follows in other games like Red Dead Redemption II for example; theres something wrong with it.
<
in contrast, ill bring up Shadow of the Colossus on PS2. this game truly shines as an example of what graphics could be like. hell, id even say that Fallout 3 or COD MW3 has better graphics than most new games.
<
this isnt just a complaint to say "muh old games good uz nu games fuggen jardee"; i just seriously think that modern games like Cyberpunk 2077 suck graphically

I liked Titanfall's artstyle the best, it had really good texturing instead of trying to make everything raytraced to oblivion and the visuals weren't obtrusive which made the game still competitive and fun. Compare that to Apex Legends' overblown, oversaturated color schemes and obtrusive HUD, and its an obvious downgrade

im looking at titanfall again and i still think it doesnt have much grit to it. it still feels and has that "plastic" appearance.
<
perhaps its the ray tracing? i really dislike the constant usage of making everything reflective.

I more meant titanfall 1, but I played both 1 and 2 on console so the graphics were obviously shitter with less reflections

>Fallout 3
Graphics? No. Atmosphere? Absolutely.
>Cod Mw3
mw2, hell Cod4 has more appealing graphics than any nu cod

i mean the xbox 360 MW3 btw

i do too
I mean Gears of War 1 from 2006 has more appalling graphics than
most of these nu games. Just compare it to reloaded.

this screenshot is nice. it makes me interested in the game.

also replying again to this post, atmosphere is such an important thing that has been forgotten. i could honestly say that fallout 3s graphics are nicer than fallout 4s because fallout 3 managed to use its limitations to its advantage. the texture resolutions and graphical limitations they had to work with allowed for a developed grit and a unique ambiance that makes it truly defining as a video game. fallout 4 attempts to recreate this with modernized graphics, but fails because they cannot develop an ambiance; their game ends up looking cartoonish compared to Oblivion/3/FNV

remasters always fail because of their inability to capture the essence of older games. a direct problem that is immediately noticable is the dissolution of graphical elements that made the game what it is.
<
a good example would be the Oblivion remaster. the old Oblivion was vibrant with colors aiming towards a fantasy feel; the new Oblivion attempts to reach towards the perception of reality, while sacrificing its charm and beauty.
