I think one of the things I despite most about Japanese media, in particular Anime and Manga, is the fact that normal stories can randomly turn into pornographic material for no good reason.

In the West we have (or, perhaps had, as this has diminished somewhat in the modern day) a very clear distinction between media that is public, non-pornographic art and pornographic material which is to be hidden away. Even if a work is very adult, that is to say featuring violence, mature themes, etc., it will likely not go beyond the pale of featuring sexual themes lest it be placed in the category of pornography. This distinction is also made by the fact that pornography in the West makes no attempt at telling a story, having a plot, or anything like that. While I hate pornography and think it has no place in a civilized society, I understand the practical function of this distinction and see it as a very good thing.

This is as opposed to Japanese "art", where an anime or manga can go a very long time without featuring any pornographic material and being largely appropriate for all audiences (although featuring Japans patented lewd sense of humor), and then suddenly feature graphic nudity at the drop of a hat. This is also exemplified by the Japanese media that both invests time and effort into the plot while also just being outright pornography from the get-go. To my admittedly biased western perspective, this makes up the majority of Japanese media.

This blending of the public art with pornography sickens me in a kind of primeval, prelapsarian way, I don't even know how to describe it. It seriously makes me uneasy.

Do not correct me if somehow I got details wrong pertaining to that one particular manga, I don't care and I never intend to read such filth. I hope any of this made sense, I am very tired.

In the US maybe. Not in France and other southern European countries like Spain or Shitaly. In France pornographic movies could be played in regular movie theaters up until 1975.
A lot of Italian movies from that era are what we consider erotica too. Think about Pasolini, Fellini.
Also french children comics in the 00s had plenty of sexual themes. Do NOT google image search "le petit spirou".
