Yesterday, rumors of financial uncertainty have been sparked regarding French video game publishing company Ubisoft when they unexpectedly postponed the release of its first-half fiscal year 2025-26 earnings just mere minutes before they were supposed to be published. Today, Ubisoft has taken a step further by suspending all trading of its shares and bonds.
These unusual happenings have speculated theories from gamers and analysts alike that Ubisoft may be undergoing significant changes behind-the-scenes such as corporate restructuring, privatization, or even total buyout. According to insider knowledge, Ubisoft CFO Frederick Duguet sent an email to staff stating that they could not share any explanation for the move with employees “due to legal regulations.”
Leading up to this crisis, Ubisoft shares have plunged ~49% year-to-date to a 13-year low due to repeated flops and delays of major titles (Star Wars Outlaws, Assassin's Creed Shadows, etc.), closures and layoffs at subsidiaries, and even sexual misconduct scandals. Altogether, this has resulted in consistent downward revenue for the company.
