Jadav Payeng, known as the "Forest Man of India," is an environmental activist and forestry worker from Majuli Island in Assam, India. Starting at age 16 in 1979, he witnessed thousands of snakes dying on a barren sandbar due to heat and lack of trees. Motivated by this, he began planting bamboo saplings and over four decades single-handedly transformed the land into the lush Molai Forest, which now covers about 1,360 acres (550 hectares). This forest is a thriving ecosystem home to elephants, tigers, rhinos, deer, birds, and many other species.Payeng's relentless dedication earned him the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, in 2015. He continues to plant trees and live near the forest, demonstrating the profound impact one person's commitment can have on environmental restoration and sustainability
