time to cleanse the palate for today and bring you folks some real sports instead of the same ol' shit that ain't ever gonna change.

I'm playing a full season of SimLeague Hockey (NHL) on WhatIfSports for the first time, and decided to use a lineup of the Edmonton Oilers from NHL Hockey '92 (only on the Sega Genesis) by Electronic Arts.

this Edmonton Oilers lineup will be composed of:
> Line 1: Mark Messier (C), Esa Tikkanen (LW), Joe Murphy (RW)
> Line 2: Ken Linseman (C), Petr Klima (RW/LW), Glenn Anderson (RW)
> Line 3: Craig MacTavish (C), Craig Simpson (LW), Kelly Buchberger (RW)
> Line 4: Adam Graves (C), Martin Gelinas (LW), Dave Brown (RW)
> Defense Pair 1: Steve Smith (LD), Charlie Huddy (RD)
> Defense Pair 2: Geoff Smith (LD), Chris Joseph (RD)
> Defense Pair 3: Kevin Lowe (LD), Jeff Beukeboom (RD)
> Goalies: Bill Ranford (starter), Grant Fuhr (backup)
> Extras/Healthy Scratch (Press Box): Anatoli Semenov (C), Norm Maciver (D), Craig Muni (D)

> PP Line 1: Mark Messier (C), Craig Simpson (LW), Glenn Anderson (RW)

> PP Line 2: Craig MacTavish (C), Martin Gelinas (LW), Joe Murphy (RW)
> PP Pair 1: Steve Smith (LD), Charlie Huddy (RD)
> PP Pair 2: Chris Joseph (LD), Kevin Lowe (RD)

> SH Line 1: Petr Klima (Left Forward), Craig MacTavish (Right Forward)

> SH Line 2: Adam Graves (Left Forward), Ken Linseman (Right Forward)
> 4-on-4 OT [Overtime] Line: Mark Messier (Left Forward), Esa Tikkanen (Right Forward)

in other words, i'm gonna get this very last Edmonton Oilers team from their 1980s championship dynasty days one last run at championship glory. because after the 1991 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Edmonton gradually gave away all their key players except for Buchberger.

1 win, 38 losses

nobody scored… so fuck updating the box score.

and for the goalies:
> Grant Fuhr: 667 saves/775 shots on goal = 86.1 save percentage/5.72 goals against average
> Bill Ranford: 716 saves/834 shots on goal = 85.9 save percentage/5.84 goals against average

it's nearly time for the All-Star Break, so don't expect any of my guys from the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers to make the All-Star Team at all, because of the disgusting losing record of 1 win and 38 losses.

1 win, 39 losses

only Mark Messier scored
Joe Murphy assisted on Messier's standard tip-in goal of Murphy's missed wrist shot.

through 40 games, my point producers for the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers are:

> Bill Ranford: 716 saves/834 shots on goal = 85.9 save percentage/5.84 goals against average

and now just one more game left to go before heading into the All-Star Break.

1 win, 40 losses

Mark Messier and Esa Tikkanen scored the two goals by the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers.
Joe Murphy and Charlie Huddy assisted on Messier's goal
Messier himself assisted on Tikkanen's goal.

through 41 games, my point producers for the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers are:
> Mark Messier (C): 6G/6A/12P

> Bill Ranford: 716 saves/834 shots on goal = 85.9 save percentage/5.84 goals against average

now that the 1st half of the season has wrapped up, we now head into the All-Star Break. Because of my team's disgusting losing record, don't expect anyone on the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers to make the All-Star squad.

It would be a miracle if the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers stopped giving us the same ol' run of the mill bullshit and produced for once in the 2nd half.

1 win, 41 losses

the All-Star Break finally happened, and unsurprisingly, none of my EA 92 Edmonton Oilers made the cut. The season continues, and unsurprisingly, none of them scored, so fuck updating the box score.

and for the goalies:
> Grant Fuhr: 784 saves/913 shots on goal = 85.9 save percentage/5.89 goals against average
> Bill Ranford: 716 saves/834 shots on goal = 85.9 save percentage/5.84 goals against average

same ol' scoreless bullshit, just a different day and a different game.

1 win, 42 losses

only scorer for the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers was Craig Simpson.
Steve Smith assisted on Simpson's standard tip-in goal of Steve's missed wrist shot.
other than that, Dave Brown got ejected for spearing, and unfortunately, Simpson got ejected for injuring Olli Maatta from Better Score Goals with a vicious elbow.

through 43 games, my point producers for the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers are:

> Craig MacTavish (C): 2G/3A/5P

and for the goalies:
> Grant Fuhr: 830 saves/961 shots on goal = 86.4 save percentage/5.73 goals against average
> Bill Ranford: 716 saves/834 shots on goal = 85.9 save percentage/5.84 goals against average

sadly, Craig Simpson will have to miss the next two games because he just got suspended for injuring Olli Maatta. and because of Simpson's suspension, we're gonna have to see more of Anatoli Semenov, get him out of the press box and give him some run time.

 â„–12051[Quote]

Martin Gelinas will move up to the third line with Craig MacTavish and Kelly Buchberger. Semenov is on the 4th line with Adam Graves and Dave Brown.

Esa Tikkanen, Mark Messier and Adam Graves scored a goal each.
Joe Murphy assisted on Tikkanen's goal.
Ken Linseman assisted on Messier's goal.
Anatoli Semenov assisted on Graves' goal.

through 44 games, my point producers for the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers are:

> Bill Ranford: 716 saves/834 shots on goal = 85.9 save percentage/5.84 goals against average

unlike Craig Muni who failed to produce with the run time he was given whether Steve Smith missed time with injury/suspension, Anatoli Semenov maximized the run time he's being given (1 assist) while Craig Simpson is out on suspension for 2 games.

as soon as Simpson gets back, Semenov may go back to the press box but he will be the first priority should any other skater (including Simpson) get further injured or suspended.

1 win, 44 losses

the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers took a whopper by losing 1-13. only scorer in this lopsided game is Esa Tikkanen.
Charlie Huddy and Joe Murphy assisted on Tik's goal.
in a game where Chris Joseph, Jeff Beukeboom and Dave Brown all got ejected (Joseph for kneeing, and Beukeboon & Dave Brown for elbowing).

through 45 games, my point producers for the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers are:
> Mark Messier (C): 7G/6A/13P

and for the goalies:

> Bill Ranford: 744 saves/867 shots on goal = 85.9 save percentage/5.93 goals against average

after this game, Craig Simpson's suspension is over, and Anatoli Semenov will be going back to the press box, while Simpson re-takes his place at LW on the 3rd line with MacTavish and Buchberger. at least Semenov produced an assist with the run time he was given in Simpson's absence, while Muni couldn't produce with the run time he was given in Steve Smith's absence.

Bill Ranford will be starting the next game.

1 win, 45 losses

once again, only Esa Tikkanen scored a goal.
this time, Geoff Smith and Chris Joseph assisted on Tik's goal.
this is coming in a game where the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers look like they're not even trying to score on the opp's net, while Dave Brown got ejected for butt-ending.

after 46 games, my point producers for the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers are:

luckily enough, Dave Brown once again avoided getting suspended. But seriously, the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers need to stop giving us the same ol' run-of-the-mill bullshit of refusing to even try to score on opp's nets.

losing ways still continue, but at least the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers have snapped their 2-game scoreless streak by scoring two goals.
Martin Gelinas and Glenn Anderson did the goal scoring.
Kevin Lowe assisted on Gelinas' standard tip-in goal of K-Lowe's missed wrist shot.
Steve Smith and Ken Linseman assisted on Anderson's goal.
also, Bill Ranford got pulled for Grant Fuhr

1 win, 49 losses

the losing ways still continue, but at least 4 goals were scored by the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers.
Martin Gelinas and Esa Tikkanen each scored one goal, while Kelly Buchberger scored twice.
Dave Brown and Kevin Lowe assisted on Gelinas' goal.
Mark Messier and K-Lowe assisted on Tikkanen's goal.
Gelinas assisted on Buchberger's standard tip-in goal of Gelinas' missed slapshot.
Adam Graves assisted on Buchberger's second goal.
btw, Grant Fuhr got pulled for Bill Ranford.

> Bill Ranford: 899 saves/1051 shots on goal = 85.5 save percentage/6.17 goals against average

even though Dave Brown got ejected for kneeing, he again avoided suspension. Craig Simpson however wasn't as lucky, as not only did he get ejected for elbowing, but once again he's out for another two games because he's suspended for intent to injure.

because of Craig Simpson's two game suspension, Anatoli Semenov will be getting more run time, and the last time around, he scored 1 assist in 2 games. Let's hope Semenov can do even better for the next two games, and again, Semenov will be on the 4th line next to Adam Graves and Dave Brown, while Gelinas gets promoted to the 3rd line at LW next to Craig MacTavish and Kelly Buchberger.

1 win, 50 losses

finally we're seeing some players put in the effort to score for the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers, in this case, they scored 5 goals
Martin Gelinas and Glenn Anderson each scored a goal, while Esa Tikkanen came away with a Hat Trick (3 individual goals scored in 1 game).
Kelly Buchberger and Jeff Beukeboom assisted on Gelinas' goal.
Petr Klima and Ken Linseman assisted on Anderson's goal.
Charlie Huddy assisted on Tikkanen's standard tip-in goal of Huddy's missed snap shot.
Joe Murphy and Beukeboom assisted on Tikkanen's second goal of the game.
Mark Messier assisted on Tikkanen's standard tip-in goal of Messier's missed snap shot.

Anatoli Semenov didn't make an impression with the run time he's getting, and he has one more game left to produce before Craig Simpson comes back from his second suspension of the season.

since Anatoli Semenov didn't produce at all with the recent run time he was given, Craig Simpson will be coming back from his second 2-game suspension, thus Semenov goes back to the press box.

Glenn Anderson scored once, while Craig Simpson redeemed himself and came through with a Hat Trick (3 individual goals, 1 of which was Short-Handed).
Petr Klima and Kevin Love assisted on Anderson's goal.
Craig MacTavish and Kelly Buchberger assisted on Simpson's first goal.
Buchberger and Chris Joseph assisted on Simpson's second goal (shorthanded).
Mark Messier assisted on Simpson's third goal to give Simpson a Hat Trick rating.

EA 92 Edmonton Oilers have picked up their second victory of the season, but don't expect a playoff run out of it, given the W-L record.
Glenn Anderson, Esa Tikkanen, Mark Messier and Martin Gelinas have all scored a goal each.
Geoff Smith and Petr Klima assisted on Anderson's goal.
Mark Messier and Jeff Beukeboom assisted on Tikkanen's goal.
Tikkanen assisted on Messier's standard tip-in goal of Tikkanen's missed snap shot.

> Grant Fuhr: 1059 saves/1228 shots on goal = 86.3 save percentage/6.02 goals against average

the sad news is that Steve Smith is suspended again. He'll miss the next two games, so Craig Muni's gonna get some run time for the first time in a while for the next two games.

and for the goalies:
> Bill Ranford: 1794 saves/2085 shots on goal = 86.0 save percentage/6.52 goals against average
> Grant Fuhr: 1541 saves/1783 shots on goal = 86.4 save percentage/6.44 goals against average

Norm Maciver is the only one totally scoreless at all, so he ends the season without a point picked up. And as for the team, the EA 92 Edmonton Oilers have failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. We tried, but we just can't win games for shit to save our own lives.

Oh well, better luck next time.

my next SimLeague Hockey season should be spent in Private Theme Leagues instead of Open Leagues. I'm planning on creating a Theme League where you can only play as late 1990s Bottom 6 non-playoff NHL teams (from 1996-97 through 1999-2000).
