I finished this recently and I'm very torn
I really liked the later episodes (1), but before episode 14 it is not that interesting, mostly episodic and boring
The filler episodes are few, but definitely the worst and together with the recap episodes I think about 10 episodes can be skipped entirely

1) most people know this show 2nd or 3rd hand because it was popular on tumblr for being extremely gay.
It is extremely gay, but most of that is esthetics. (there's more incest)

The reason I still like it, or can overlook this shit is because neither are portrayed very positively.
The lesbian is kinda crazy and the incest is always fucked up (unlike oreimo, where we have to pretend it is just like any other relationship and totally normal)

after episode 14 it stars picking up the pace, and everything from then on is about illusion and reality.
I particularly liked how it starts picking apart utena herself, because up until that point she's always in the right and thats annoying
The other characters keep doing shit, which surprised me, because usually anime turns the niggas that've had their arc into bg faces you can soy out over when they appear in episode 6 gorillion again

I'd recommend this if you can put up with its bs, otherwise Hesse's Demian is a good replacement
