• Providing THE YEAR the anime was made/aired tells the reader A LOT of what he needs to know about the anime - "2010" for example (as that's well into the nuanime/tranime era of anime) indicates the anime is almost certainly coal
Three red flags, in other words.

Readers can disregard the webp point if they don't think that indicates anything, but point 2 and 3 together is valuable info about the anime - in this case info letting you know the anime is probably extremely far away from being "one of the best anime of all time" as OP called it.

And you should read that whole thread, which predates this thread (so there's no excuse being made; WEBP in practice meaning "this is a worse quality version" is simply the reality we live in).

Literally nobody on this site would ever care about a few pixels being lost because of a file conversion. Soyjaks aren't exactly known for their crisp image quality. Of course if the image is entirely unreadable due to the quality that is a different story, but that certainly wasn't the case in this archived thread you linked, nor was it in this thread. In fact the image in this thread was high quality enough for you to be able to search for it on AniDB, so there is no excuse to complain .webp here.
