buy a deck of the waite-smith tarot (it is the most ubiquitous and unadulterated by new age "witchcraft", although you can divine with literally anything if you have good intuition) and just start reading. ask simple questions or questions you are likely to get an answer for soon when starting. keep a tarot journal so you can meditate on past readings you have/haven't gotten an answer for, this will help you a lot in your development. i recommend not drawing more than one or two cards at the beginning so you can get a feel for what each card itself means to you and what two cards mean together. you can try to do bigger spreads (and i did do bigger spreads when i was just starting out, but i relied heavily on books and youtube videos for that) every once and a while if it calls to you but try not to overwhelm yourself, you have to learn the all the meanings of 72 different cards, not to mention what they mean in a spread. as long as you commit to reading for yourself over time and maybe do some other practices to train your intuition you will start to see progress. me personally i used
https://www.youtube.com/@kippi as a guide for when i just started out, but if your interpretation of a spread disagrees with your teachers do not throw it out immediately, wait for god to give the answer to you through an experience and re-read your query to try and figure out what card(s) meant what in that scenario. the tarot, like all forms of magic, is of a deeply personal persuasion. do NOT allow yourself to be boxed in by other people's ideas, although you do NOT want to disallow yourself from taking useful suggestions. use you intuition and your discernment to divine what is and isn't for you. you might also like to meditate so you can more easily focus solely on who/what you are asking the question and the question itself rather than getting distracted with thoughts, your spreads can get confused if you do not do this and you might inadvertently try to answer a million questions at once. lastly, treat your deck nicely. if you have chosen a good patron/matron or a fine spirit to communicate with then you should treat them and the cards with respect, although i would avoid entering into any sort of master/servant dynamics with anything if you can help it. also, the cards are simple tools. do not worship them.
