Red flood is pretty good and ran well last time I played it, its UI takes some time to adjust to each time doe.

Kaisereich, You can always use also the "deleteallunits+ countrytag" command to remove armies of any country you want, helps reducing lag

i used to play it a lot but the gameplay is almost the same on almost every tag. you just shit out infantry and with endless ground nigger wars (especially in china). this resulted in me replaying union of britain and canada like 5 times since they are the only interesting countries without endless ground wars. This is why i like Pax Britannica, since they completely change technology and units, making the whole combat (main) aspect of the game interesting again.

Speaking of technology, I like when nations in mods like pax britannica and TNO have unique research trees. Because it feels so tiresome to do the same fucking research tree with same fucking mechanics you've seen 6 million times since around 2022

Play Red Flood, Kaiserreich, KX if you want more wacky paths, Old World Blues if you like Fallout, Darkest Hour if you want an earlier historical start date for WW2

This applies to almost all singleplayer games of hoi4. Play mp if you want more viable strats than infantry spam
