Just played through metroid nes without a guide. Its fucking dogshit (I still had fun because I have low standards) but one of the first non rpg games to break from the arcade formula. What does the rest of /v/ think about it?
<nigger space
I'll also be going through the whole series chronologically (except for the new ones because I don't have nintendo consoles and my pc is fucking dogshit) maybe I'll post about my experiences if anyone is interested.

Still kino but super metroid and zero mission make it redundant

You WILL do this because retro metroid is kino

Zero missiosns is are goodesterst gaym

It's a lot like the first legend of zelda game. A groundbreaking game that is immediately replaced by an infinitely better version a few years down the road.

you should have played zero mission instead
metroid NES and Metroid 2 GBA are bad games made redundant by the remakes

*GB not gba
but play zero mission next nusoi

 â„–56513[Quote]

no real reason to play it apart from curiosity, most non-arcadey NES games are like this

Xir yes xir
>>56497
Its crazy how well some of the mechanics have aged, all of the upgrades are in the later games and work great
>>56509
For the record I already played through the gba games years ago (they're fucking amazing), I just wanted to see what the first game was like

I'll do one or two runs of slay the spire and then I'll start playing Metroid II

If you go back to the start with the spiderball theres no upgrades there

I quite enjoyed playing zero mission, never even bothered with the NES game because i'd rather have the QOL features.
Metroid Fusion is a shining gemerald that the soyim could not appreciate because they wanted another Super metroid. Super metroid is good too, but this doesn't remove from fusion being a great game that compacts everything down, I personally prefer it.
The 3ds version of metroid 2 is decent too but a bit repetitive.
Generally a gemmy series of games that I haven't spent enough time playing because i'm a lazy bastard

Metroid II first impressions
>nigger space
Over all better game feel and more fun to play than the nes one, added some needed features like spots that refill your health and actually conserving your health through saves. The music isn't as good, also feels like you progress too fast. It is fun to explore a planet other than zebes for once in the metroid series. So far it seems a lot less bullshit with core progression not being linked to bombing random tiles

OYYY ITS P

 â„–56668[Quote]

It's getting fucking awful, incredibly easy and repetitive. Metroid NES at least had something you were building up to, here you're just killing fucking 'troids. There's only 3 'troid types i've encountered so far and 2 of those act the exact same, the third one is more interesting but encountered only once so far and piss easy

 â„–56733[Quote]

You should have used the manual, it gives a lot of information, same with the first Zelda

 â„–56738[Quote]

you'll have fun with super metroid

Holy shit, that was fucking awful, what a shitload of fuck, I'd rather eat the rotten asshole of a roadkill skunk than play that game again. For the love of god do NOT play this brim. Final boss is a massive slog even doe the buildup is really cool, also think the omega metroid introduction is really cool but they're massive pushovers. I'm gonna have to take a break before another fucking metroid game (though just a few days at most)

One thing I do read are the manuals

Now for the one everybaldi cares about.
For the record i have played a little bit previously so i already knew how the first half an hour plays out. First of all the music is good again, i even put on my headphones. Overall just so much nicer than the previous two, you can aim diagonaly, the knockback isn't an issue unlike the previous games, it's way easier to orient yourself and you actually have a map now. My playthrough has been pretty funky so far doe since I went to the area that you cant exit untill you get the ice beam (kraids lair and norfair), so i beat kraid before properly exploring brinstar. Kraid despite being fucking ginormous dies to a few super misiles
