The awesome guitar fighting music and eerie idle room music hardly makes me go feraljak mode after 8 hours. I mean seriously wind chimes on arisen's refuge?! windchimes are gay and hippy noise making things only drug heads enjoy so basically it's like any "indie" game that has government proxy funding[any money exchange i don't like is from bots if that matters] ruined by troons I'm trans btw

Some things are better than dd:da but some are considerably worse, I wouldn't call it a bad game, some people got a hate boner for it on release due to the retarded dlc policy but all the dlc is useless
I'd say start with dragons dogma:dark arisen first, but if the old graphics put you off so much there is nothing wrong with starting with dd2, but be prepared the story is shit and more like an afterthought
