what deltarune could've been.
It's no secret that since chapter 1 the game could have taken much, much darker and serious route. Darker, yet darker.
<
The game is about escapism. There is a light world, where everything is as it is. Even if there are monsters, they are just normal being made out of flesh and blood. They know no magic, they don't fight, and they bleed. You could treat them just like a different race.
<
And there's the dark world, where the fantasy comes to life. You play pretend with mundane household objects, they gain consciousness and a character. You bring a pen or a toothbrush or anything else with you, it becomes a magical sword or an ax. And you yourself become a strong hero. Light is the reality, Darkness is the fiction, and you can pretty easily draw a parallel to the real life, with deltarune being our little dark world. Now, if only the game was more of an RPG, that analogy could really flourish. But it doesn't. Because, it would be really interesting if deltatroon showcased the two sides of darkness, of fiction. Instead it only shows the lighthearted adventure side. Deltarune is pretty linear and cheesy if you ask me. I would love more freedom.

Like, to get what I mean, look at the dark worlds. Chapter 1 is escapism through the games, ch 2 is escapism through the internet, ch3 is nostalgia, ch4 is religion, ch5 is nostalgia too? Idk. It doesn't really explore nor follow this theme at all, that's what I mean, besides maybe secret bosses. Like, if you get too invested in darkness of the internet, you become detached from reality and who you really are, or maybe you become desperate like Spamton and start looking for a way to become big, or in his situation, morph from a darkner to a lightner and become the protagonist. Or if you get too invested in darkness of nostalgia, you may become like tenna, wanting the things to stay the way they are forever, being afraid to change or become irrelevant.
<
There is a lot what can be done with this topic, but toby doesn't do that. He almost doesn't show us the downside of darkness and what a catastrophe would happen if too much of it released during the Roaring. Instead deltarune is a mainstream, light hearted point A to point B adventure, where your choices or input as a player, your view of the game and the world, don't matter. No effort is required for the residents of dark world to end up happy, no effort is required for susie to overcome herself and change, no effort is required for anything. It happens by itself as things go on, you just complete bullet hell minigames and that's it. Deltarune is linear and boring. It's an antithesis to Undertale, in a way. Players want freedom, yet Toby mocks them via mike parodies?
<
About the prophecy. The prophecy is a vague line of events that is written in such a way that it's actors may change yet the prophecy itself may stay constant. Like Gerson said, read between the lines and shit. So, for example, Susie is the dragon and one of the main heroes. A cage may refer to Kris or Vessel. Prince from the dark could've really been any darkner or some convoluted being of pure darkness like ralsei idk. Now, the game doesn't play with that. Your choices don't matter. In chapter 1, you defeat the dragon by making susie stop being a mean bitch. Now, what if you could defeat her in literal sense? Like, if you was mean to Lancer or if you just ignored her and such, playing on her traumas of being left out, so you can then end the chapter and expel her for nearly killing you at the begging? You technically have beaten the dragon, and now the place of the MONSTER in the prophecy is going to be taken by someone else, depending on your choices, may it be berdly or noelle or jockington or whoever the fuck. Again, cool rpg mechanic, inderect party building that plays in the lore. But whatever. Maybe it will play out in chapter 67 where you have to choose between killing kris or killing vessel, fulfilling shattering the cage prophecy or something like that, altough I don't believe that this is the final tragedy.
<
About the weird route. Honestly, I wanted it to be the rape route, in a cautionary tale type way. Not in a pedophilic sense, but the opposite, I wanted it to be a commentary on people who obsess over games they play SO MUCH, that they insert themselves into it, ship themselves with characters, and become insane gooner no life redditors. There is even a subreddit which just fits this description perfecty, it's
r/SOULelle, where basically a bunch of grown ass pedophiles ship themselves with video game characters, which is crazy. In the arg, Toby said that it's gross, but he's too much of a pussy to comment on it in the game and blame the player for it. So, like, in ideal deltarune it would look like that: you're the Angel, and your choices shape the game, while still following the prophecy, and yet instead of actually playing, you're so consumed by imaginary world, by the darkness, that you endulge in a romantic fantasy with Noelle, who isn't even real to you. And after that, it would backfire on you and maybe like, i don't know, corrupt your save file or delete the game or anything meta like that, so it would teach you a lesson to not be a disgusting pedophile lusting over imaginary characters and go touch grass.
Sorry if this isn't coherent it's just 2 am and I had a very convoluted thought about what the game could be. A perfect continuation to undertale.

>>63890>>63891honestly you could go even further with this idea, like what if you could chose your soul color in the very very beginning which alters your playstyle? I might as well add on to this for how Deltarune could've been improved chapter by chapter
<Chapter 1after picking your soul color and getting your vessel scrapped in favor of Kris, first off Noelle is gonna from here on out will be more of a pessimist of the world as well has a microscopic god complex. And for Susie, if you bully lancer or ignore her she continue to attack and refuse to be told what to do. Once out if you haven't befriended Susie you can squeal about her almost biting your face off at the very beginning which leads to her being locked out of being a party member from here on out.
<Chapter 2First off you can actually walk to school and even visit castle town early If you expelled Susie you don't get the sequence of Kris and Susie visiting castle town again, but if you do visit Ralsei will catch onto what happened and panic as everything is out of wack as the party's one person short you're going to need a new partner for the class project since, you don't have one anymore. Your choices are any one of your classmates between Catti (Warlock or Necromancer), Jockington (Rogue), Monster Kid (Psionic), Snowy (Bard), or Temmie (Druid). Catti will try to leave you with Jockington since she has work after class but with a little convincing you can get her to call in sick and send Jockington on his way home to do the project. Snowy and Monster kid would be the easiest to convince between one of them to be Susie's replacement as they need any excuse they can get to get away from the other. Temmie meanwhile just needs to admit the egg is only moral support. But you can get Noelle or Berdly early and skip parts of chapter 2 but you need to nag them incessantly until Noelle finally speaks up to tack Kris onto their group. From there if you got into Noelle and Berdly's group when you hop into the cyber world you can grab Berdly (skipping his bossfight and giving an alternate snowgrave if you go down the weird route with him getting isolated from Ralsei in the carnival since weird route locks you out of having him in your party anyway) or Noelle (skipping her being captured and the trucie sequence). Otherwise the cyberworld is completely reworked to more resemble the computer lab its based on like how chapter 1's dark world took direct inspiration from the abandoned classroom
<Chapter 3First off Tenna stays dead, plus Noelle, and Catti get some unique scenes due to them having known Kris longer
<Chapter 4most of the changes are in the light world as we see Noelle's new personality in full effect as she rants to Susie, Berdly, or Kris depending on your choices on how trapped she feels in the light world and that how all the cool stuff in the dark worlds could be used to benefit everyone and she finds out Rudy dies in the last scene.
<chapter 5the big one, if Susie is still in the party during a normal route she will outright friendzone Noelle which will cause her to snap and run off, and going to the holiday mansion you can find her phone and interact with Gaster (also the flowershop dark world is getting reworked from the ground up to not be a repeat of nostalgia and to axe all the grooming on Ralsei)
β63999[Quote]
>>63970though if you've gotten Susie expelled chapter 5 will instead involve Noelle tasking Kris, and Berdly or Catti if one of them replaced Susie with trying to find Susie only to find out she's skipped town and finding her diary with Noelle discovering Susie absolutely despised her which causes her to snap

>>64220I plan to make it like gamemaker a bit.
So the user declares the structures which are provided by the static library which then will be processed by the application. So you don't have to write the game loop, you need to declare static data like rooms and application metadata and object behaviours (via function pointers). Also, i think instances will be allocated on the heap and accessed via the linked list.

i considered GLFW, but turns out I didn't need GPU acceleration or OpenGL or shit like that. I chose SDL. Now, I had to rewrite everything like twice, but here are the fruits of my work, the base of a game library, you declare rooms and objects and their behaviour via function pointers, it's a nice little system. Instances are allocated on the heap, so it's better to create several at once and deactivate the ones you don't need. In terms of performance. Now, the client side code looks absolutely hideous and unmanagable, that's why I will create a windows application in visual studio that will generate c code with a good front end for the user. An IDE akin to gamemaker 8.1, which is surprisingly good the more I learn about it. Also, I will replace object pointers will void*, capiche?
