What is your favorite Mario game? Talk all about it here

 â„–52801[Quote]

The first one. Only game I can say lives and no continues 100% make the game more fun. Im saying this as someone who never uses infinite lives cheats.

Interesting perspective, I never thought of it that way, I always played that one using saves, maybe I should try it without

 â„–52806[Quote]

I think Super Mario Bros 3 really solved the equation but I also think Mario Odyssey is a fun game

I think the point was that the warp zones are the level select. If you go to them first thing you'll think the game is unfair because of the difficulty spike but if you play the worlds in order then you understand when your ready to use them.

Super Mario Bros 3 is presented as a stage play. The game begins with a curtain rising. The environment has shadows against the backdrop. Objects are bolted to the background. You're watching a play. But this design choice is NEVER mentioned in the game - at no point are you told that this is a stage play. Why?

I never understood the appeal of Super Mario World. Sure it was the big SNES launch title and the game that introduced Yoshi but besides that it's mid as fuck compared to Mario 3 and the Mario games which came after.
>Most levels are sameish and look like they were designed with Mario Maker
>No new power-ups besides the cape (super leaf which makes the game trivial by running at the start of the level and flying to the end)
>Little to no world theming (the only world with a theme being Forest of Illusion which sucks anyways)
>Backgrounds are flat and boring to look at, graphics in general look from an early PC Engine game instead of a SNES one compared to other early SNES games like Castlevania IV and A Link to the Past
>Mario feels like Luigi in the Mario games after, he is too slippery and while the game controls fairly well there are not many new movement options apart from kicking items upwards and the spin jump, both being very situational
>The open world map is a good addition but adds nothing to the core gameplay
>Yoshi is only there for you to take an extra hit and maybe get a couple of secret exits
>The music is also good but the tracks you will be hearing the most are all remixes of the overworld theme (the credits and bowser's theme are really good doe)
>Secret exits are a good concept but there's too many of them, lead to nothing most times and I just don't want to play the same level two times to clear it both ways
>Bosses are also mid I guess but that can also be said about most Mario bosses anyways
<Reddit
I mean it's not a bad game at all but I don't find it to be the masterpiece millennials who probably played it as their first game (or first SNES game at least) say it is, same applies to zoomer nostalgiafags who watched kaizo romhacks or japanese automatic mario videos in the 2000's. Specially when in the same series you have Mario 3, Mario Wonder and the 3D games and in the same console you have the Donkey Kong Country trilogy and Yoshi's Island, all better games than Mario World.

Finding moons is hella fun, the gimmick where you go into a wall and it turns to old mario is aryan.
The visuals are beautiful the minigames are fun. Top 10 game for me

I prefer SMW to Mario Bros 3
Its the controls really. Something about the movement feels just right, and 3 feels off for me. Also I played pretty much all of it on the GBA SP, worth the £10 o algo that i spent on the cartridge.

People always forget about the GB mario games. If it was just the original super mario land I would understand why, the "worlds" are all unique in terms of design and enemies but the mario falls like a rock and the game is really short.
Super Mario Land 2 is a gemerald shining from the peaks of Hyperborea to the depths of Agartha. The power ups are unique, the level designs are unique and the best the 2D games have ever seen, the controls feel good. If you haven't played it yet load it up in an emulator. Troons and Nostalgiafags love to suck the dick of the DS New Super Mario Bros but SML2 is the real gem. NSMB was mid.

For the 3D games I like 64 and Odyssey was good but piss easy. Haven't played enough galaxy to comment, 3D world was uninspired slop and the worlds feel like shit, 3D land was decent fun but only in the context that it is a portable 3D mario on the 3ds, it isn't that interesting otherwise. At least the levels aren't stupidly wide like in 3d world

1. Bros. 3 is less creatively stagnant unlike World (just look at some levels like Star World 3 or Vanilla Secret 2, they're fucking SNARKY.SNAPPY-tier EASY) but yeah, World's movements surprisingly aged well. no surprise my heckin' kaizo hackerinos use World above other pre-3D mario games.
2. If i'm not wrong Land 1 was weird because Shigeru Miyamoto had little to no involvement in the game's development, meaning that the devs had way too much creative liberties.
3. TSMT, Land 2 was the first mario game i ever completed in my life and it was really fun, it also introduced wario and the wario land games which as far as i remember were pretty good (i wish nintendo still portrayed wario as another intimidating enemy for mario in case bowser got stale doe). The first New was a cute addition but it never had to become a spin-off, everything after Wii is uninspired shit and redditors only defend it blinded by nostalgia.
4. The only 3D game i ever played was 64: my only complaint and a minor one is that the textures aged like shit, and no the console's limitations were not an excuse because other games like perfect dark or majora's mask had more detailed textures and were made with the same hardware. other than that, its overrated but fun.

3 Isn't that hard, and the Final World doesn't remove all your level progress on a game over unlike the other worlds. And the final level is way too easy.

Might have been the case for land 1, theres a lot of classic miyamoto mario enemies changed like the turtles exploding and the game feels very different. Still feels like mario doe, which I can't say for mario bros 2.

The textures on 64 must have been super raisin because it was afaik the first 3D game Nintendo made that ACKtually had textures, the starfox games on SNES were all wireframe with solid colours. Still doesn't change that it looks shit. If the greedy little japs at nintendo weren't such SLFs and used CDs or even their own proprietary disks for the 64 they could have blown Sony out of the water in terms of having more detailed 3D models AND better textures without additional cartridge cost. I find most 64 games aged very poorly graphically, people are le nostalgerino for PS1 graphics but they don't even try to do 64. GBA and SNES games both aged better than 64 visually, even the 3D GBA games, I highly recommend trying out V-Rally 3 on the GBA.

Mario 64 still holds up mechanically but is soyed out over too much.

I wish the series took a turn towards what Land 2 had done instead of New. The DS game had a few unique enemies but still felt very meh. If they had kept up the world diversity from Land 2, they could have had many distinct games and 2D bing bing wahoo wouldn't be considered as much of a caca game. They clearly can do it too, the mario kart games have plenty of unique tracks that could also have been levels, but they're too lazy. A pinball machine, ski track, musical instrument or mall could all have been interesting levels. I can imagine how especially the ski slope could work great on the 3DS, have you walk on a snow ramp where theres enemies snowboarding from the background towards you.
