For me it easily topples minecraft in a lot of aspects, yes, it's a hard game but if you don't want to die often you better know how to pick your fights, you'll actually have fun playing it.

it's like terrafirmacraft if you're familiar with that but more polished

basically it's minecraft but every mechanic has been made more deep and hands-on
flint tools have to be knapped voxel by voxel
ceramics (which are really important and used for bowls, storage later for smelting) have to be actually sculpted voxel by voxel and after that fired in a pit kiln
finding ores actually takes time, you have to take samples or observer the geological structure of your area to narrow down a vein you want
melting metal isn't as simple as throwing it in furnace you need fuel that burns hot enough, to smith weapons you have to hit it with hammer… yada yada you get the point

another aspect I like about the game is the general vibe, the worl gen looks realistic and I love the texture work
while a hard game to get in to, it is at the same time a "chill out" game, since progress is slow and preparing for the winter is a long process, for me it's almost a zen like experience

with all that said, the game is clearly still in development, some aspect such as enemies (or more liek their lack there of), combat and exploration is sorely lacking, there's also not a lot of to do late game apart from obtaining steel (which is overkill since most enemies can be killed easily with bronze gear already)

I played it, like it but want to wait for the dev to add more content to work towards, for now I prefer gregtech as my go to block game autism experience
I say give vintage story a try, but remember to read the in-game guide book often

If you do get it make your first playthrough further south on the map or stsrt in the south
I got assraped by winter and to be honest it lasts too long and restricts you too much. Its a punishing game too but its rewarding when you first make a pie for instance and all the work it took to get there
