Honestly I'm generally at least somewhat critical of basically every religion, they've each got their own separate shitcauldron somewhere in their history. IMO, best practice is just to take what positive lessons you learned from your religion and put them into practice; do better than our ancestors did. If you ask me, any god that's worth worshipping will understand someone being unsure what to believe or not going to church every single Sunday of their lives.
