Haven't played it in a while, it's the easiest paradox gsg by far, if you have 2+ braincells you will always steamroll the ai
mostly fun if you like roleplaying as your nation/race

also yes dlc is mandatory, only buy the base game and get a dlc unlocker, or just pirate the whole thing
mods are nice but I mostly play without them these days, only use few mandatory QoL and visual ones

As boring as any other paradox map game but this time it doesn't even have the flavor e.g. "I'm gonna revive the Roman Empire epic chungus style!" because it's just space and stars and weird alien creatures so there is not even any larp potential.

unless you TRY for a bad reason, probably, to immerse yourself, then sure, you can fall for it. but the immersion, unlike in other games, where it makes the game positive, here just makes it tolerable. YOU ARE UNINTELLIGENT OR DONT UNDERSTAND ENOUGH IF YOU LIKE THIS GAME
