Honest answer: because consoles in general are dying. Xbox is just the first, and I expect Sony to basically go the SEGA route and switch to just game development/publishing within a decade, two at the most. Even Nintendo might fall if they keep treating their fans like utter shit. Basically anything on Xbox is also available on PC, and Sony seems to have seen the writing on the wall and is transitioning to PC ports as well. Nintendo mostly gets by on gimmicks, the handheld market, and the fact that the games they develop are generally extremely polished experiences. But we're even seeing cracks in that facade with the clusterfuck that Pokemon has become.

TLDR, PC gaming covers what the Xbox has to offer, Sony seems to be pivoting to ride out the potential failure of the Playstation, and Nintendo is rapidly eroding the patience of their fans
