>>26722I was pretty impressed with it, I liked the concept, it's like X-Files but set in Spain and focusing on Catholicism and Christian mythology. The second season leans more on H.P. Lovecraft's stuff though. Lucifer's demonic form is like 1:1 matching Lovecraft's descriptions of Nyarlathotep. And the book that drives you mad if you read it is clearly supposed to be the Necronomicon, they describe it as being written "by the mad arab" which is the same description the Necronomicon has. And the God's Eye stuff clearly mirrors Azathoth, who's attention you don't want to attract as just waking him would mean the end of reality.
I don't know how I feel about a potential third season though as they're delving into the alternate universe stuff which typically means "we killed off a lot of characters but we want to keep using the actors so we're just going to have them play different people now." Generally it adds an element of nihilism to stories and nihilism inevitably leads to apathy.
Macarena Gomez was pretty great (Merche) I mean I hated her character but that was sort of the point, I knew the second I saw her "She's going to be insane by the end of the season" because that's what she's good at, playing really insane broads. And I kind of felt bad for her because while half the raisin going wrong was her fault at the end of the day her motivation was just wanting her husband back.
Also I think a lot of the cast and crew are the same people behind movies like The Last Circus and Witching & Bitching. I was kind of surprised when I saw Carolina Bang's name in the credits as executive producer because that woman is a total smokeshow and it almost seems like a waste to hide her behind the camera. I mean yeah I've seen recent pictures of her since she had her kid and she's put on some weight, but I still 100% would.
