>>29199Its a 6 operator phase modulated synth, inspired largely by the Yamaha DX7 of the 80s. How it works is basically that each operator generates a sine, square or custom wave form. These are divided internally into carriers (the oscillator that sends its sine wave to your speakers) and modulators, which use their sine wave to modify the carriers.
In Phase Modulation, the frequency of the Carrier remains perfectly constant. Instead, the amplitude of the Modulator pushes and pulls the position (phase) of the Carrier's waveform back and forth along the timeline.
I got the idea from Curtis Roads' 'Computer Music Tutorial'. However I made some modifications to the design so that it could be more than just a dx7 clone. I implemented a lot of logarithmic scales to map parameters. I implemented reverb and chorus. And I also added a second modulation source to the carriers. The reverb itself is now also a modulation source. This is a unique invention of mine. The idea was to be able to simulate in FM synthesis the resonant behavior of string instruments in relation to strong reverb.
