I've had this problem too. My solution is:
-Pinta for quick and simple editing (works a lot like paint.net, but the interface is not as nice)
-Krita for more complex work (i disabled the furry splash screen)
-paint.net in a vm if it's something specific i need

i tried pinta but it lacks so many features from paint.net at this point i just downloaded WinBoat to run paint.net inside my computer. full vms fuck my computer hard since goydows takes gorillions of sources to run.
